Looking for opinions from anyone out there that has prior experience replacing the clips, that hold the stainless trim on the windshield and back glass, for a 68-70. With the multiple suppliers available out there selling these clips, I question how many different manufacturers actually produce clips. I'm in the process of removing the back glass from my 70 B due to trim install problems. Just a couple pieces of trim around that window that I couldn't get snapped into place and now I have to start over.
Give me your thoughts on who supplied clips that you felt worked good on your project, and by all means let me know who's were a problem.

I ordered some for my 68 Satty, and they were a different design than the originals. I don't know if they were a replacement , or improved ? The bags they came in ( for front and back) were labled for my car. My glass installer didn't use them, because they looked different. I haven't re-installed the trim yet.........................MO

R/T Specialties is the best. Just ordered a set for front and back today. Give Tom a call, nice guy that knows his products.

If we are talking about a rear glass for a Plymouth then there is a big problem with the new clips from any vendor. My back glass on the X had to be removed due to the clips and the seal(urethane too thick). Originally I thought the issue was the thickness of the seal only but it was both.

The clips themselves are too tall in some areas around the perimeter of the glass and subsequently kept the trim from seating. So my glass installer had to change the curvature and grind down the top edge on several of the clips.

My suggesting is make 100% sure the sealant either rope or urethane is the correct thickness and two install the clips and check every one on height and fitment.....

Tom at RT specialties is the go to guy....

The trim must be installed at the same time that the window installed. If not the window will sit to high for the trim to fit correctly. The trim will set the glass at the correct height while the butyl is still wet.

It was installed immediately after the window was set in and the urethane was "wet"....Plymouth rear glass 68-70 is not the same as other models. It is very tricky because the clips are not the same as for other models like a charger etc....

After reinstalling the old urethane was a 1/16 or so higher than the 5/16 it should have been and that had zero effect. It was the clips no question, no doubt....

Word to the wise check the clips....my 2cents....

I installed the back glass in my 69.5 Road Runner with the clips from RT Specialties with out any issues at all. That is why I ordered a set for my GTX that I am getting close to installing.

Mine too were from RT.....I highly suggest to check them.....

There is a very detailed section in my build thread here showing what had to be done to the clips....Once some of the clips were ground down and a few reshaped everything fit perfectly.....

My windshield guy has been doing it for 30 plus years so it wasn't due to lack of experience......

If at all possible, it is a good ideal to verify what your original clip profile was. I have to say that there must be at least four to possibly six different manufactures out there putting clips out to the different vendors. I know that when we had the manufacture that makes ours up, they were given NOS samples of each style to work from. The problem is like any part, tooling gets dull and loose the accuracy that it may have been initially set to. The largest difference is looking at the angle in which the clip fits the profile of the window. You will see several variations on the angle from vendor to vendor. And I know on a different clip issue that we discovered on the clips as used for the window felts, the tempering process is critical as well.
The B-Body clips are fairly straight forward with the exception of the early 68 cars which used the 67 lower clip. Similarly, the A-Pillar clips are slightly shorter, although most vendors use the same clip throughout on the windshields. It is best just to know who your purchasing from and their product knowledge.
The 68 to 69 A-Body windshields is a whole different story. There is no rhyme to reason as I have been able to determine which style was used. So it is very important to know your needs in that case.

Bought my back glass clips from megaparts and they were a PITA! I don't know who their vendor is. But make sure to check against a OE clip, there a slight differences in height and shape which make the aftermarket back glass clips nearly unusable.
My windshield clips were also from megaparts and worked very well.

Thanks a lot for the info everyone ! I will call RT tomorrow and get a new set coming. I didn't have a problem with the front trim so maybe there is something with the glass sitting at little proud on the urethane or whatever was used to put the window in last year.
