Is the older Sears timing light set up to check advanced timing? Or anyone recommend another light? Hunting used bargain...

Depends on the model but most of the older ones are not advance lights, you needed timing tape on the damper

Does it have a dial knob on one end with numbers?

Well call me VINTAGE, but my 48 year old Craftsman timing light used with a timing tape is a method that works. Yea, the insulation is a little melted from header contact, and you have to clip it on the plug. But the damn thing still works !

I like the old lights. My new Innova does not work with multi spark like MSD and Pertronix. My Sears still works well

My 1970s vintage craftsman timing light works great with my msd.
