Headlight adjuster ??

Bought a new set of headlight adjusters that look and seem to be the same as the oem one's that I wrestled out. Had to destroy them to get them out. SOOO my question is how in the F@@@ do you get the replacements in with out busting them???Clean clear slots,even greased them up. I think if I wack them it will bust the plastic inserts. POPS

YES, screw removed. I even took it apart snapped the metal clip in and tried to push the plastic in. NO JOY AGAIN!!!! On my way to the parts store to search the HELP section.
Why a simple task turns in to a project I will never know!!!!!! These can not be the correct one's POPS

I bought some from orielly that needed just the corners shaved oh so slightly to pop in. I used an xacto knife.

I used a large rounded flat face punch(rag wrapped around it) and hammer, no kidding...I oiled the perimeter and one good(but not crazy) hit and they pop in....So no they dont simply pop in by hand...

Thanks guy's I will give it another try in the morning. I ordered aftermarket's for back up's (no metal sleeve)!!!! POPS

Call me crazy, but w/o the metal sleeve they might be too loose? Haven't had to do this myself yet. (listen to nation74)

Popslavaz, could you post a picture of the adjuster / retainer that your trying to install? Also, what year model and headlight configuration, two or four headlight system that your working with. Quite possibly, the vendor may have incorrectly packaged the part or sent you the wrong style. If I could see a picture, that would might help to resolve the issue. Should be a straight forward procedure with the adjuster screw removed, I use a brass drift positioned firmly on the face of the nylon insert. A sound tap of a small hammer will seat the insert. Pretty much as Justin mentioned above.

All in place. I backed it up with a block of wood and used a plastic hammer. I sure would have bet the farm that the plastic (nylon) inserts would fail!!! None did. Lesson learned.

lol....I thought the same thing years ago when I did it that way....Banging on plastic doesn't sound like a good idea...but it works...

I had no doubt you would get them installed...
