Please bear with me, my first post. I have a 63 maxwedge that will need a repaint after rebuild. I have seen maxies (either real or clones)in at least three different shades, I've seen street hemi-itis orange which I know is wrong, yellow with a strong shade of brown that i don't care for, and a very yellowish orange on mine.,from Mopar spray cans. The trouble is, the Mopar spray cans are terrible, integrity of a Graham cracker, covers like skim milk , bad spray valves, etc. The first time took three cans at $15 apiece. . Who has quality paint the right color? And what IS the right color?

This color is what I was told by Bob Mazzolini

Thanks spf63, that's the color i've got,but your paint is LOTS better than mine looked. Who's paint?

I use the Mopar Performance paint, and don't have any problems with it. It covers well, and dries fast. I use 4 or 5 light coats so it won't run.

I was told its the closest to the real thing as u could get

Got our paint from TOTALY AUTO in PA. for my dads 62 max wedge. Looks right to me. There is the race & street color. We got the street orange

I think mopar performance paint gets the job done or not seems to depend on the color. I have used both turquoise and street hemi orange and had no problems. The race hemi orange (very yellowish ) doesn't cover or last, at least thats been my experience.
Does the nasons require a primer? If so,what? I want to use a compressor and gun this time, no cans.

Get ahold of frank badalson and buy some PPG enamel from him in the correct color.
He doesn't recommend primer if you want a really authentic apprearance.
I epoxy primered my 68 (turquoise) as I was more concerned with adhesion as apposed to show points.
I wanted the color to be right.

I don't blame you for not wanting to rattle can your stuff.
I wouldn't rattle can anything that meant something to me.

I didnt use any primer, but it took 3 or 4 good coats to cover so no runs. . A Primer sealer might have been better but i used none

i get mine from classic industries .it is oer classic blend engine paint it comes in a spray can works great item # k89160

The guy who's working on my car decided it needed the carbs rebuilt and the valves adjusted. When he cleaned the valve covers all the paint came off so he went to the shelf he found Krylon Medium Pumpkin Orange and painted the intake and the valve covers. So Krylon Medium Pumpkin Orange is also Max Wedge Orange!

Guys,

Anybody know what color this might be? I love the color just have not been able to match it up to this point. Omaha Orange is closest so far but it is not "yellow" enough. Race Hemi is too orange as well. Pictures are of my two Race Hemi's and my max wedge. Trying to match the Wedge paint. This is the Wedge.

Side by side. From what I can remember and from what my father remembers (he had an original Max Wedge in 62) the Wedge was definitely a different and more yellow orange brown color than even the Race Hemi.

The yellow-orange on your max is the same as mine, which was painted with mopar performance race hemi spray can. Your race hemis look like what i think of as street hemi orange.
The orange mopar engine paints are a complete mystery to me . I understand there are variations of shade for race hemi, an early and a late version
of street hemi that aren't the same, then another shade of orange for the aircleaner housings that are supposed to match a fram filter, and is different from all the other oranges.
Then there is chevy orange, which also seems to have multiple shades, depending on brand of paint, that are also supposed to be very similar to certain mopar oranges. And then there is also a tractor orange that is supposed to be the same as........?
As in my first post, i have seen (in my opinion)maxes painted too red-orange, and with too much brown tint, and yet everybody is sure theirs is right.
Who knows? I sure dont. I'm just gonna try to get mine painted like 63spf.

Also note the decals. The Race Hemi Super Stock 426 match and the Super Stock Wedge match in the lighter color as well.

LOL! I know this is crazy, right?! Here is what I painted both Hemi's with. Mopar Race Hemi Orange which is much different than Street Hemi Orange, but yet not the same as both my Max Wedges. 63spf looks almost the same as my Max Wedges, I wonder what color he used? The Mystery continues.

Good thing is no matter what color I love them all 62 to 65!
