I'm not going to bore anyone with a long story about how I got here, instead I'll just tell you the problem and hopefully get some help.

I have fuel coming out of the fuel vent line in my car. When the car is running it's a steady stream. I don't think the fuel vent line is factory. It runs from the tank under the car and dumps in the fender well by the fuel pump on the block. It doesn't appear to go up anywhere, like the factory one appears to do by going up into the trunk to a high point then coming back down.

Could the lack of a high point be the problem? Or should there be a check or something in the system?

Any suggestions to remedy this are welcome...

It COULD be as this is critical. What year?

69 Coronet.

I have a factory replacement vent line to put in the car, and I'll will likely put it in this winter. But for some reason, the guy that restored the car 20 years ago, sealed all the holes in the truck and ran this new line to the front...

Does the line connect to the small fitting on the sender? If so that's a return line and if gas is above the sender hole it will leak.

I can't remember right now, I'll have to look at it when I get home on the weekend.

If possible, route that line high and close to the package shelf. Loop. It may solve it, maybe not.

There is an existing thread on this with pictures. Can't find it now. RC responded to that one.

"Lack of high point", most certainly...Why he went to frt. fender is anyone's guess??!!

Alright thanks guys, I kinda figured this would be the problem, but wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking something... When I get a chance next I'll put a high point at the end of the line for now and when winter gets here I'll put in the proper system...

My guess is the line is the return and he used the pump without the bypass, that's why the line is up to the front fender not hooked to anything.

Hi Dennis

Replying to this old thread, hoping you can help
I have a 70 RR, with the after market tank,
With the correct vent lines
which I am pretty sure the internal vents line were mistakenly reversed
so I have tried switching the lines
my problem is that fuel comes out of both vent lines
the long external one empties into the right rear frame rail, and eventually out the holes in the frame rail near the exhaust resonator, seems kind of dangerous.
does your car do this? the car came to me with a vented gas cap which I think is incorrect, not sure if this would make a difference???
any suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks Larry also in the SF bay area
