Steering Column spline coupler whatchacallit..

Does anybody have any advice on how to remedy this loose seal/cap on my column before I put it back in? Sorry for not having a better photo.
The rubber gasket is worn and the steel cap won't stay tight either.

Take it apart and recrimp, the add the clip in post 2.

I just ordered the large O-Ring from them last week. Thats why I have the column out...Ain't that comical :BangHead:
 
The clamp that has been posted works great. Just went through this and got it all back together with new kit and clamp! But, I recommend that you get a complete rebuild kit for the coupler too. Cheap money for it. Also, as I just found out, check the length of the column before rebuild kit and clamp goes on. The reason my coupler was so loose was because the column was about 1.5 inches short due to previous attempt to fix steering box and banging on it. If you are sure it's the correct length then you're good but if not, do yourself the favor of checking. If not, you'll pull your hair out trying to get that cap on the coupler and the new clamp will not fit! Good luck

looks like you just buy this so you don't need the sear or metal clip - I did not know about the metal clip until now - i may just buy that first to see how well it works
 
The tabs on the metal clip are really hard to bend over the coupler correctly. Takes a lot of muscle to spread them out over the coupler to get into the holes. Good advice to drill and tap the coupler for a zerk fitting to add grease when needed. Once that clip is on you won't have to worry about it coming apart.
 
YMMV on this.
Not that this is any guarantee but I've had some luck working the cover tabs such as this (if this makes any sense to y'all)..........
To start, these tabs on the cover (green) all need to have a hook on them. I doubt they'll even hold for one turn of the wheel without.
I "over curl" the cover tabs inward (A) on one side and under on the opposite sides (B) so it just fits over the can.
The crimp points shown in the lower image. As the pressure is exerted to side B it pulls the cover towards the center. Side A tab creates holding tension as it is forced outward.
