Am looking at doing a Borgeson power steering box upgrade on my 65 Coronet and thought I would try to buy from PST seeing as how they are sponsors of fbbo but their list price is $203 higher than most of the other usual vendors for parts for our cars. WOW!!

You might want to take a look at "Firmfeel". Probably not any cheaper but a great improvement.

I have looked at both and like the Borgeson. I was just shocked at the asking price PST has. If a member goes to their website because they are sponsers, believing that they would get a fair deal, even with a discount it be $126. more than Summitt and others

I have brought this up to them in the past. Never received a satisfactory answer as to why they charge so much more than any other supplier.

I guess giving business to the competition is one business model that i don't understand

I bought mine at jegs, free shipping. I also bought the fitting to use my OEM hoses, 30$, and a coupler to weld onto the shaft for 19$ So I had basically everything to install it for 675$ plus my labor.

I strongly reccomend you get a Firm Feel, or Steer and Gear modified stock box. I'v done both, and the stock style bolt right in. With Borgeson, I had to dent my 2 center header tubes considerably more to install it. Had to shim the box to get a straight shot at the column. It would squeal like a pig at low rpm turns. Had to change out the pressure fitting to the larger style. Then had to buy an overpriced pump, that had too thick nuts on the studs . Had to change them out. Now I have a car that steers marginally better than the old box, and have to listen to hissing sound coming from the steering column. And every time I made a change to correct the issues, there went the fluid. I have well over a grand in this crap, when I think I could have got a Firm Feel for $400.

Here was me thinking the borgeson was the way to go. Having said that I never heard anything back about Firmfeel or S&G. The core charge kills it for me here, end up swallowing that at your at borgeson money

I think there are other factors to consider. What size engine, what headers are you running, Are you wanting to drive in the hills or go in a strait line. Personally I am building a canyon carver so the borgeson was the only option. I had no issue with header clearance on my small block and already had a Saginaw pump. If my intention was to run the quarter mile or cruise Woodward I probably would have stuck with the rebuilt unit already on the car. As you stated if you have to factor in the shipping and core price the Borgeson also looks even better.

The selection of the Borgeson was based on size and the fact that the FF is really just a eevamped stock box, much improved to be sure but still big and heavy. I also believe that the core charge and shipping puts it out of contention for anyone upgrading from manual

Do you have your car running, and driving? I am curious whether your stock Saginaw pump is working fine without any skips or squeals?

Its still being built but it does run and drive and in the short runs I've taken, there has been no issue with noise from the new box. I still need to do final alignment settings so there are plenty of clicks and bumps going on up front, but none from the Borgeson. The biggest issue I had with the swap was leaks. The hoses that I ordered from Borgeson did not have the proper fitting for my Saginaw pump. I had to have a bump with an o-ring added to the pump end of the pressure hose to match what was on the original hose. Not sure what Saginaw pump is on the car as the engine and accessories are not original to my car. As with anything on these 50-60 yr old cars, whats universal to one car may not be for the next. As you stated you had to shim and dent your headers. My install minus the leak issue and fabing in the new steering column took roughly and hour. Even with the new column and using a u-joint the connection is dead on straight.

Thanks for replying. I'm thinking of trying a different pump yet again, since i put on the expensive borgeson pump, and changed to the larger box fittings to run the larger diameter pressure hose at the same time, I'm not sure which is causing the noise.
