Disc Brake Conversions

I am looking at the disc brake conversions Doctor Diff offers and I see they offer a 10.95" kit that says it will fit 14" wheels, and a 11.75" kit that says it will fit 15" wheels.

I am planning on running either 15" Magnum 500 style road wheels or 15" American Racing Torq Thrust wheels.

Curious what size people have chosen who are running 15" wheels.
 
I would make my decision on whether you have Power brakes or manual, high hp motor or stock. If you have manual brakes and a hp motor I would get the 11.75. If you have power brakes and a stock motor the 10.95 will work just fine. Just my 2 cents worth.

Makes sense. The car has manual brakes and Cass at Doctor Diff said they can set me up with the right master cylinder to operate them well. Motor is not planned to be a high HP build. Just mildly over stock. I was just curious what others were going with.
 
I have manual disks on my '71 Charger and '55 Plymouth wagon. They both stop great. Personally, I prefer the feel of manual brakes. Not sure what difference hp would make on brake selection. The same car with 300hp or 500hp takes the same amount of work to stop.

I'm thinking the thought is hi HP means you are driving it harder and need more brake, but I get what you are saying.

Hey Bill,... which DrDiff kit did you use? the 10.95 or the 11.75"?
 
I wanted to keep the original wheels so went with the 10.95.
 
I went with a powered kit from PST that clears 14" wheels. I could still end up with 15" wheels but wanted the option of keeping the 14" Magnum 500's. My thinking is the slightly smaller discs are still going to be so much better than the original manual drums, and as the car is a cruiser it doesn't need huge brakes.

I doubt the average person would notice the difference between the two. There is no more clamping area since both use the same caliper and pad. The difference will be "leverage" which will be only slightly greater with the larger rotors - they will only move the rotors 3/8" further from center. But since you plan to use 15" wheels I don't know why you're even asking the question ... go with the big one's and be done with it.
 
I have the 11.75" kit from Dr. Diff waiting to be installed on my '67 Satellite. I wanted the bigger kit because I run 15" Cragars and the piece of mind when I start putting a little more power under the hood. I also got a new master cylinder recommended by E-Booger Disc-O-Tech swap to keep a factory look.

We offer a couple of variations/options for DBK conversion. But from a rim stand point we do offer one that will work with 14" rims. What I like about this kit is it based off your stock drum brake spindle, so there is no need to swap out spindles and redo your alignment if it is has already been done. Then secondly it use a stock style 4 piston caliper like what would have been available in 1969. Plus with the 4 piston you have more pushing against the pads for a even distribution of force instead of the single piston's clamping force.
