Is there any difference between a motor home 727 and a car 727. Does it have more heavy duty guts or better cooling or is it just a 727 in a motor home.

most if not all motor homes have a short tailshaft 727 with a brake on the end of it. you could use it but you would be piecing all sorts of other crap together

I can change that to a regular type tail shaft. I was hoping it would be heavy duty to some degree.

Yes they are more heavy duty. Extra clutch plates and 4 gear planetarys. Most have short tailshafts with a bolt on yolk Similar to early power wagons with the divorced transfer case.

Ok got to get rid of the drum brake on the back so what tail shaft housing do i get.

How did my trans get to your house

lol Its just a motor home transmission. I'm doing a low compression 440 build it was bolted to the 440

Mine had a 440 bolted to the front also going to turn mine into a 512 and want to use the trans

What are you doing with the tail shaft issue.

The entire transmission has to come apart to change the tail shaft. At that time you could use a tail shaft and housing from a regular 727.

Tourqueflite = car
Powerfilte = truck
When changing the output shaft make sure parts are compatible. There were some year changes.
A tailshaft is a tailshaft 66 and up anyway.

Does the whole trans have to come apart or can i just change up tail shaft

You have to take out all of the internals. And get to one clip that holds the tail shaft from coming out the back. Sadly taking it down to bones is what it takes. I happen to have an old 727 that was in the roadrunner before something failed in it. I think I can combine the 2 and get a rock solid 727. Found a great series of videos on youtube for a complete tear down and rebuild. One of the best I have seen. I will include the video link. But its like 20 smaller videos. Keep in mind this is a small block 727 but it should not be any different.

It doesnt look hard at all to rebuild. Just need one special tool to get the clutch packs replaced. You will see that tool in this series. You will need a tailshaft like this one also the output shaft that goes with it. Since they are different lengths

over the years I have leathened or shortened the drive shaft on many customs i have built has any body done this with this application . I think the HD motor home trans is the same one they put behind cummins pu . i had a 89 with this trans .

Here is the clutch compressor you will need to get the clutch retainer ring out. This is a cheap one I just ordered off amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Safstar-Stab...e=UTF8&qid=1519356476&sr=8-1&keywords=TL31546
You will only need this if you plan on replacing the clutches. As soon as I start this process I will take detailed pictures or videos of the internals. This will be my first ever trans rebuild. So its a learning experience for me too.
