Hi all. I have a question about my power steering pump belt and pulleys. The belt fits perfectly on the crank pulley but is a little big on the power steering pump pulley. Do I have the wrong pump? Its a Saginaw with the oval neck. Maybe someone swapped it back in the day and it worked ok? The car is 68 Super Bee, 383 with a 4 speed.

I had the same problem on my '68 440 when converting from A/C pulleys to non-A/C. Luckily I had a wider Saginaw pulley in my stash that was the same keyed shaft type. However, now the belt rubs slightly on the fan pulley. Not enough to cause wear, so I'm going to live with it.
I'm sure using a thinner size P/N 15*** belt will be just fine. The belt you have on now is probably a P/N 17*** size.

Here's a pic of the wider pulley installed and the thinner pulley off to the side.

I may swap back to the thinner pulley and a 15*** belt in the future just so I won't have the rubbing issue.

Does the Saginaw pump use power steering fluid or ATF?
