The Tank on my 69RR is about 8 years old and I will be pulling it off. How is the best way to be sure inside is Clean ? I will be putting in my rebuilt 440 and want to be sure of the Tank.

Thanks Tom C.

Have it hot tanked i used muratic acid before on a truck that sat with a half tank of fuel but you got to be careful not to burn a hole in it and wear a respirator hot tanking it is the safest

Here's the thing, I just went through this and decided to just replace it. I didn't trust trying to do it myself and paying someone to do it wasn't an option considering you can buy a new spectra tank for under $200

Just noticed that it's only 8 years old. I would just take a flashlight and look inside, if you don't see sediment on the bottom, then I wouldn't worry about it. Shouldn't be anything and fuel filter couldn't take care of. My tank was 49 years old

I used a product called Skyco ospho on a rusted harley tank and it converted the rust and sealed it. Put it in sloshed it around about every 15 min and dumped it out and let it dry. Worked great.

How did you do that?.....
Lol, A lot of undercoating/sound deadener. Small thick hardened patches came off with just a thin blade paint scraper. But the stuff that was thinner caused me to consume a six pack. I also used bug and tar remover, wheel magic, and acetone. Soft wire brush the rusty areas. Rinse, wash, repeat.
No blasting was done on it.

I cleaned a1965 tank that had dead mouse remains inside with a "green" cleaner I left inside (sealed up) for 1 1/2 days. I shook it up occasionally and finished up with the pressure washer. Then I sealed the inside and brushed the outside with Rustoleum Black paint. It's in my daily driver.

Is your concern rust, varnish, or both? Eight years is not a long time, unless its been just sitting. If rust, Evapo-Rust work well. I've used it on motorcycle tanks. Never dealt varnish on that scale. As for new tanks, Tanks Inc has a new one for $150; $245 for in-tank pump one if you run F.I.
