Vintage Air does not offer a "AC kit" for our year Mopars, but that doesn't mean you can't make one work. We are in central Texas and our summers are quite hot so AC is a must, however I'm building a Street Wedge recreation and having a big honking compressor with all the associated AC lines running all over the place is NOT what I want.

So I located a compressor mount that sticks it down where the power steering unit would normally go. That solved one problem. It will also allow me to run the lines out under the battery tray to the condenser and drier. They will then travel through the passengers wheel well into the air box and from there into the car. So no AC lines all over in the engine compartment.

As far as the AC unit is concerned, I purchased a large 4 vent/2 defrost unit and made the mounting brackets to locate the unit where I needed it to be given the AC lines will be entering the interior through the air box.

The heater lines will come in through the stock holes in the firewall and travel above the AC box on the inside of the firewall and then connect on the right side. In most cases running the lines so they are not obtrusive is the hardest part.

It will be a while before I finish the install, at this stage its just mocked up... but I'll post pics of how and where I run the lines when the time comes.

Good plan. That's exactly how I did the hemi-wagon.....and it worked and looked good. I passed the lines thru the top of the rt-inner with some billet bulkhead connectors and AN, for a little bling. I also passed them thru the cowl-side, to keep them outta the engine-bay.

Any pictures of it in the hemi wagon? What year?

I'm hoping to do the same engine configuration in my 63 Ply Spt Fury vert. Car came with AC, so I have the box under the dash but I want to run the compressor on a 426 Max Wedge with P/S pump and alt.
My Q's is has anyone done this before ? What kind of problems am I looking at. Car came with P/S , P/B , AC , and power windows with a 361 BB, "400 in her for now"

Looks like you bought the same unit as me, 32 degrees out of the vents:thumbsup:. I hard plumbed as many lines as I could and kept it nice and neat with a low mount A/C serpentine setup, very happy with it.

Aloha, What A/C serpentine set up did you use ?

You are doing what I plan for my 65 other than I'll be doing the pass through behind the rh fender to bring the lines in. My unit is getting replaced since I'm using a 70 k-frame which move the engine back [interferance with the h valve], heater core leaks and the blower fried. I like the newer units since they do away with the vacuum pods and are more efficient. Are you using the big unit or the next one down? I solved my compressor mounting with the serp setup from SD Concepts.

Agree the newer units that don't use the vacuum are much better.

There are several different places to mount a compressor, however only one that I could find that mounts it in an unobtrusive location. But you can't run PS with that setup. For me that's not a problem as my car didn't come with PS, but I needed the compressor to be out of the way so the engine compartment will appear "relatively" stock. As far as PS goes, from what I've been told dealers generally tried to discourage ordering PS when someone was ordering a big block with a 4 speed trans. With Mopar PS of that era, one missed shift and you could yank the wheel enough to wind up in a tree.

I was thinking about installing a new kit in my factory ac coronet. The box that contains everything looks like it would be a pain to get apart.

Unfortunately as far as I can tell none of the aftermarket AC vendors offer a kit for 62-65 Mopars. Vintage Air does have kits specifically designed for 66 and up Mopar muscle cars. The firewalls on those are different than our earlier cars so it is questionable they would fit properly. The best option I have found is to choose a universal unit that offers enough cooling capacity for the car and then fabricate the bracketing necessary to mount it where you need it to be. Its not rocket science but will take a little time to do the install right. All the ancillary stuff is pretty much straight forward and common to all AC units but you do need to plan out the routing of the lines first.

Yes, dagoldguy, it has been done before. Vintage Air compressor mounted on a custom bracket that moves the P/S pump up a few inches. Custom fab that turned my March billet dual belt crank pulley into a 3 belt set-up to drive the compressor. Universal under dash components. I wasn't worried about hiding anything so it was a little easier. Works like a champ...

Nice work guys, enjoy all the planning you all have done to make it all work. This is why this forum keeps growing. I have myself have learned so much and the biggest thing is the planning of the whole picture first then adjust when needed. Again tank you all for the input you give.
