i have a '69 and a '71 318 la motor. the '71 came from a truck and has a straight filter attachment. the '69 has the adapter that makes the filter go back toward the rear of the car. the '71 has a sheet metal plate and no adapter. can the plate be taken off and put on the '69 motor so the filter will stick straight out? i can't use the '69 adapter because it hits my exhaust. if not, i could get a 90 degree adapter but, they are a little pricey. i have no desire to redo my exhaust.
thanks for any replies, gary

no problem, a SB motor is a SB motor both years use the same oil system.

moes thank you. the '71 motor is still in the car or i would have simple taken it off and tried it on the '69 motor. i am putting the '69 motor in and taking out the '71 motor. the '71 has started to make a clacking sound from the valve cover. i think it's a lifter that has collapsed or maybe a rounded off cam lobe. either way it's to much clearance at the rocker and push rod tip.

yep, just take it off the one motor and place it on the other motor.

I believe those adapters were used for header clearance.

The 69 adapter is the 90 degree adapter. With new gaskets it can be clocked however you want. No matter what you decide you'll want new gaskets. Need a socket with flat edges to grab the filter adapter that holds down the plate on the 71 if you want to switch it over otherwise it can be rounded off. Good luck.

thanks for the reply. i haven't got the motor out yet, to busy doing other stuff, but i will referr back to your reply when i do get the motor out. thanks again.
