a previous owner bent the heck out of my seat back bottom brackets. How are these things supposed to go? Debating if I should try to bend them back or let them go an not use them.
1966 Belvedere II 2 door hardtop.

They should stick straight up, the seat back loop goes over it and the tabs get bent over retaining the seat back. Use them otherwise the seat frame will rattle.

OK. Did some steel manipulating today. Mine looks like the tab could go through the middle of the seat back loop and then be bent down flat to catch half the loop against the wheel well. Does this sound about right?
Thanks.

Yup, but be aware that more than a couple ‘bend-overs’ and that tab will break. Don’t ask how I know.

Gotcha. I got that sense and decided to leave it alone until I was dead certain the seat was going in and I'd be done with it.
Thanks!

I was trying to remember how I did mine when I replaced the carpet the year before last, but couldn't remember (The memory is the second thing to go as you know), but now that you mention it, it all comes back and that is exactly what I did, just bent it over. It was pretty soft and malleable as I recall.

Fran has a good idea though. One of mine broke after 2 bendovers.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that they can't take too many bends.
