Hello,

For my GTX resto-mod, I am looking hard at going with aftermarket cluster and gauges. Specifically, Speedhut has what I am looking, but I wanted to know if anyone has used them and what they thought of the quality?

Thanks!

Craig

Hi Craig,

I had Dakota digital make me a custom dash using a core for my 69 RR but for my tri-guage cluster I used Speedhut and am really impressed with them. Fully customizable when you order with lots of options and they are a nice quality guage.

just curious but what did something like that cost you for the cluster and gauges?

I just got the Speedhut 6 gauge cluster for the custom dash I am building for my 69 Coronet. The cost was about $700, 4 - 2 5/8" gauges and 2- 4'' gauges, took about 4 weeks to build as I had them to my specs, there are about 7 different choices you make to fit what you want. They look great and include the wiring diagrams with pigtails already made up to them. In the process of cutting all the holes for placement and a test fit. Next will be disassembly and put the carbon fiber weave material on the dash backboard (sheet metal) before I remount the gauges, indicator lights and associated switches. STILL struggling with trying to find a rotary headlight switch that is built with quality and all the features in one, parking, running and headlights with interior light control. I have found a few that commenters say are good quality but they still look like something out of a 60's pickup! May end up with one of those and retrofitting a billet knob to try and dress it more like the rest of my dash. Good luck in your search!

I made a couple for my 68-69 RR's over the years,
this last one I did in like 2007 to 2011-ish
about $700 in gauges, $20 in angled gauge pods
{all Autometer, classic with the chrome bezels 3-1/8" speedo & Tach, 2-1/16" other 5 gauges}
a $20 piece locally, of 0.095 appr. 20" x 4-1/2" piece of alum.
with a 1/2 lip @ 90* for the top attachment
another $25-$50 {or more} in wiring & connectors, solder, shrink wrap etc.
8-10 or so hours of labor, drilling, sanding, prime & painting,
wiring {priceless :moparsmiley:},
a can of epoxy etching primer $8 & crinkle black paint $12
all approximate costs... = $780-$800 {2007-2011 dollars}

7 gauges, 5 small & 2 larger
in the order & arrangement I did, is a really tight fit

I could easily see it costing $1200-$1500 to have made

the bottom of the 2 big center gauges rests on the lower dash pad
it's only about 3-3/8" total room, overall size with bezel is every-bit of that
it tapers from left to right about an 1", the right side is taller
{that's the way Chrysler did the dash clusters}
I lined it up to match the lower dash, centered on the steering column
installs in the org. hole, the upper 90* lip gets drilled to hold the top,
use org. holes too, the bottom is held in place by the lower dash pad
the 3-1/8" mech. 160 mph Speedo & elec. 8k Tach
are both flat mounted/centered,
I put 2 green 5/16" LED's just to the left & right of the big gauges,
for my blinker indicator lights
{all little various LED's are with chrome bezels}
It also has a 5/16" blue LED for bright lights, centered
It also has a 5/16" red LED for e-brake warning, to the far left
It also has a 5/16" amber LED for Low oil pressure warning, to the far right

sorry no photos installed

I used a classic dash panel and added led gauges to mine... its nothing super fancy but they are clean looking and I only have $400 in them.

I wired in some green led's for turn signal indicators and blue led for brights... then I just used two old weatherpack connectors to make it easy to unhook I ever needed to.

I used them and while they haven't been operational yet I like the look and the quality. Only issue I had was the speedo showing up with "Satelite" instead of "Satellite" printed on it. But I sent it back in and they immediately corrected the problem.

Really nice looking gauges and dash, great job in matching that up! I wish I had that big window Chevy truck in my garage, like in your previous pictures....a 55 or 56? Trade you straight up for a 5 year old Subaru outback that runs like a top!

I am waiting for my Intellitronix kit to show up this week. Going with build a dash kit with the green LED,s like yours. Have to build a custom bezel using MDF and my old long sweep unit. I will then wrap it in fiberglass and carbon fiber. Curious why you didnt just use the bright and turn indicators built into the speedo unit?

I had thought about using the build kit like you did but decided it was more work than I wanted to do at the time. (I was also doing a gen III 5.7/545rfe swap). So I just got the individual gauge pack and put them in a classic dash... The individual speedo doesn’t have the built in indicators, just the retrofit dashes and the build a dash kits.

I bet your will look awesome when it’s done!! I want pics!

Ok. I got you. My kit is supposed to be in this week so I will start working on it this weekend. Need to get it built so I can finish wiring my car. I went with the green because they had them 25% off for St Paddy's. I was a little worried because I could not find any green ones but seeing yours I like really like it with the carbon fiber. I will definitely post pics when I'm done.

Built a new dash panel with carbon fiber and Speed Hut gauges for my 69 Coronet. Sorry about the lighting for the pictures
