You'll get over it, I'm sure.

AH did I hurt your FEELINGS!!!!

I hate when Mopar guys argue. Can't we hate in Fomoco or GM guys instead?

The center of the 500 trim panel was never blacked out from the factory! They did have red on them to kind of match the taillights!

I guess the best you'll come away with is the opinion of the crowd.
I have two 66 500's and one that I've really tried to make 100% original. I have collected two finish panels and neither show any sign of black paint in the field. I believe they did not have black in the field, as the dark red was still noticeable. Perhaps it was painted to hide the pitting chrome, as Chrysler did not put much effort into the chrome. It is a nice touch though...I may consider this for mine.

I've only seen unpainted chrome in that area. The red is correct, though you'll see many cars have that gone, as it is anodized and tends to fade irregularly. I steel-wooled my red off my car in the mid-'80s.

I've owned my current '66 500 since 1980, and have owned 16 '66 Coronet 500s over the years. Not one had the black.

It is possible you have an oddball factory bit there...possible.

That black looks great! If the whole part is in that good of shape, I'd leave it and install that part on your car.[/QUOT

do you know if the pass rear wheel opening trim is the same on a 66 500 2dr, as 67 r/t or 67 gtx 2dr?

It is not.

I made that mistake and know this for sure. The molding contour shape is different and the wheel well opening is definitely different. Charger rear wells are different, but the fronts ate the same.

They are difficult to find, not re-pop'd and were only on 66/67 Coronet 500's & R/T's. It took me years to get a complete set, but remember: "All good thing come to those who wait" ( but they probably won't come cheap)
