SPECIFIC question where to find matching numbers on 69 RR engine

Now the picture is becoming clearer. Knowing that it was turquoise, combined with the fact that there is nothing stamped on the pad near the oil pan, the casting date which appears to be 68 and the numbers that I faintly see in the typical 1968 location on the bell housing flange all lead me to speculate that you have a 1968 engine. Your build sheet says 120 (January 20) which is the scheduled build date. That is not up for interpretation. It's just most likely not the engine that came with your car from day 1. I don't think there is much need to look for any more numbers. Just my opinion...
I fully agree with this statement. If you've not found the vin stamped anywhere by now, you're not going to. And from what has been posted, I fully agree with the above as well stating this isn't the original engine

It took 4 pages to get a photo of the ID pad...lol

The engine assembly date and the casting date are a big red flag......

What's the issue with the HP dukeboy?? Looks identical to mine in font and placement and I can guarantee my engine is the OE in my car. I watched it drive home when I was 7 years old.

383 HP would not have been painted turquoise in 69.

I fully understand that, but we have to decipher and go back to the original post. His buddy rebuilt it.. apparently painted it turquoise.. then he rebuilt it and painted it orange and now it's out again?
my buddy had it rebuilt but said it was the same engine. I thought I saw something when I rebuilt it but now...

Agreed. Somebody isn't remembering or isnt saying what happened. Either way it's a bummer for the OP and i feel bad that he doesnt have what he thought he had.

You have to do your homework prior to any purchase and never rely on words......

The casting date doesn't mean the engine is not a '69-er.
My engine also has a casting date of '68, but the car is a '69.
Build date is early Oct '68 though so it's a very early model.

Pretty sure his engine (orignal or not) should have a '68 casting date with a SPD of Jan '69.

A 69 HP B series wouldn't have been blue as mentioned above.

That's what I'm saying. Something ain't adding up.

right. What confusing here is the casting date is August of 68 but an assembly date of 7/17 but the build sheet date of Jan 69.

For sake let's hypothetical say the 7/17 was 7/17/69.....but a casting date of 8/68 block would not have sat around 11 months for a warranty replacement......and it would not be the reverse........
