It was supposed to be a beautiful day in Pittsburgh Friday so I decided to take my 1969 Coronet R/T to work. I was backing out of my garage, which I must have done a couple million times, and for some turned the wheel to the left. I heard the terrible, ominous sound of metal on metal and hoped for the best. I got out and it was not good. Now, should I have the shop that did the restoration on it five years ago beat out the metal and repaint the fender, or buy a good used one to replace? I get angry when a fly sneezes on my car, so this is driving me crazy. Thanks for the advice.

Let the shop look at it a make a recommendation as to the value of replacing versus repair and repaint.

I feel like the biggest idiot and had a hard time sleeping last night. I took my Super Bee to work, but I had my wife as a spotter while I backed out of the garage. I have to drop it off next week to have them ascertain the damage and correct it.

Look like a 6 hours dent to me. No way I would replace the fender. Hopefully it’s base/clear then the color can be blended within the fender. If you get a different fender, gotta do the gaps and blend the color into the hood/cowl and door.

Tough to find a used one that wont need work either...

It is single stage paint. The hood and the driver side door are bondo queens so I have a doors and a hood in my warehouse to transplant when I get it done again in a few years. The quarters are reproduction so they are in better shape then the rest of the metal. Nobody makes Coronet fenders so I am stuck with mine or used ones. Hopefully, it will not be to much money to repair. I heard single stage paint is hard to color match the older, faded paint.

Get it fixed and blend out the color with in the fender.. should be a easy fix..

I also think thats with in a 1K repair with paint.

A good experienced painter can do it fairly easily. The fender is getting painted either way and the dent will be easier to get corrected than starting all over with another fender.

Sorry to see that also, Go back to the original shop you used, they know what they put on it for paint, Tint brands, mix, ect, or if they bought paint already mixed they know what brand ect.
With the live in the garage life style these cars have these days paint fade on a single stage will not be a issue. I would paint the fender then buff the door going lighter with the buffer and compound on the way to the B pillar, buff the hood and see what it looks like.
That pale yellow is going to be pretty forgiving as long as they do everything the same as in the past, sealer brand and color also.

The guy that did my R/T retired last year. He was working part time for the shop owner when he did my car. I guess he has other competent painters, but it would be nicer if the original painter was still working. His name is Mike and he worked at Ray Donch Body Werks in Franklin Park PA (about thirty minutes north of Pittsburgh) if anyone happens to know him by chance. I think he had a small shop that catered to Mopars and would work at Ray Donch’s for his bread and butter.

Man that sucks! It shouldn't be too much trouble to fix, but I know you are bummed! Best of luck on the repair and hope it goes by quick!

Have insurance? Hopefully no or very low deductible.

It is insured, but I do not know my deductible. I assume it is $500.00 deuctible and it will only raise my premium if I file a claim.

Do you have regular insurance on it or classic? I'm very curious if classic insurance works the same and claims raise your premium. I have Haggerty. Zero deductible on comp and collision. Price difference was minimal over a $500 deductible. Keep us posted on that, good for the rest of us to know.

Good luck with the repair. Coulda been worse, but still hurts. Most of us know the sound of that crunch and the sinking feeling right after hearing it.
