and good suggestions as to how to get the retainer off of the rear of the rear seat emblem on a 69 road runner with the bucket seat interior without breaking the little studs?

Hey Crider, I've not had a good look at one of those... picture?
IF it's little tabs bent over that are piecing through the vinyl interior (only if), then you can cut a section out, soak it in a jar of MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) which is a paint thinner, and the vinyl will dissolve/soften...won't hurt the metal.
Also, I looked at a picture of some 71+ seat emblems cut out of a rear seat. They had a big push-in piece behind the upholstery. It looked like you might be able to ever so carefully spread the "X" with a teeny-tiny screwdriver, separate the two pieces & then squeeze the "X" back together before re-installation....a MEK soaking might help there too.

I have never done this myself, but I'm sure MEK won't hurt metal at all. It would strip off paint thought if those emblems are painted.

It does have the big metal retainer. And some really fragile looking pins on the back of the emblem itself

Placed mine between jaws of vise with retainer resting on top of jaws, pins up, emblem resting free between jaws. Tapped on top of pins alternating back an forth with a punch and a ball peen hammer. Nerve racking but did not break one single pin. Flattened out the "X" on retainer and reused the good retainers. I also had to made a couple of new retainers as one was missing and another pretty rusted. I have a posted thread on that. Search for seat medallions if you like. Good luck.

I finally kept working with it and was able to get a little pick in there and spread the teeth on the retainer enough to get it apart
