Crankcase blow by?

Blow by issues with my 62 361 HP.
As you can see from the picture it has the vent tube on the P side, which is factory.
D side has the OIL/OIL cap.
Smoke and oil soaking the V cover on the D side.
The original 4bbl carb does not have a place on the carb for a PCV.
Should I drill and tap the front of the carb and add a PCV?

I would definitely add the PCV. I would think that would work, but the other option would be to replace the carb.
 
I like the idea of a T in the brake booster vacuum hose (as close to the engine as possible). You might want to make SURE the breather is clean too (so it works). If I needed a PCV, I would put on an aftermarket carb & save the original. The ultimate answer will be to bore and/or re-ring the engine.
 
Mine was a California car that used the pcv. Carb #3257S. You could temporarily use the vacuum plug on the manifold, behind the carb. It's where they get the vacuum for the heater controls. It's not the ideal spot but might work. I'm not sure if your carb has a "void" where you would drill into.

Does your valve cover have the baffle where the fill cap goes on? Mine has one there.

If you do not have a heavy foot,maybe a PCV might help.IMHO if you drag race or floorboard on a regular basis a PCV can suck oil into the combustion chamber which is instant detonation.Now if your a cruiser than a pvc is common.
Either way you should investigate if there is excessive blowby.Compression test,leakdown test are the 1st two things to do in the diagnostic process.Take note of the spark plugs when removed and keep track of what cylinder they came out of.A box like a shoe box would be perfect to put holes in and number accordingly.An oily plug speaks volumes!!:popcorn2:

What you have is a draft tube, and your situation is normal because it only works when the car is moving. Remove the draft tube assy and replace it with a press on PVC like KryslerKids (#5 post), and you also need to connect it to the intake manifold vacuum tee.

How about leaving the draft tube and adding the PVC to the fill side?
I do not see any blow by on the draft one, only on the fill side.
When I turn off the engine I can see oil fumes coming out around the fill cap, OIL/OIL.

Yes, remove the black cap, and attach the PVC hose. The breather/oil fill is supposed to have a filter mesh in it, but it might be all gone. I would not use the draft tube as the air intake since it is below the motor, has no filter, and down closer to the dirt. The draft tube could be clogged with crap, sludge buildup, or even a mud dauber nest causing the blowby to come out of the breather. Replace the draft tube with the correct PCV assy, attach the hose to the intake fitting, and address the breather/oil fill can. Do this, and it will look correct, and work properly.

Got er done, hope it does the trick. Notice the oil tracks on the V cover.

So this morning I started it up for the first time after yesterday installing the PCV.
It started fine and then choked spit bucked and threw a lot of blue smoke out the exhaust for about 6 minutes or so then ran smooth but the idle was up around 900 and I had it set at 500 for the recent carb rebuild. So it is working good and probably really needed to be done.
 
I would assume it was just cleaning itself out as it now has "Positive" crankcase ventilation as opposed to "Passive" crankcase ventilation...
