As we all know, after our old junk sits for a week, you got to crank the crap out of it to get the fuel back up to the carb. Which leads me to wonder if anyone make a small inline fuel pump that you could just turn on just to get the gas up to the carb & then shut it off once the carbs are full.

Is there such a pump or not?
 
In my A100 I have installed one, Cr8crshr had one in his 66-300 he had, as well as his current ride. what we used are like this, except mine is like a coil clamp mount. Cr8crshr's are switched, mine in my van, I just lift the hood and just hotwire the pump to get it goin. I still need to install one on my 300. Works good! :thumbsup::thumbsup: Good Luck

One member has an electric pump plumbed in with a bypass line with a check valve. . He runs the pump to prime carb and then shuts electric pump off.

Yes I feel your pain !! Summer heat will also be on & vapor locking & fuel boiling will begin.

Will the engines mechanical fuel pump draw fuel through it?
 
We run a mechanical pump and electric backup on our plane; auto conversion chevy v6; with no trouble.

now that I have my new carb & E choke...boom! starts right up...even in frigid temp...love it..

used to have to crank & pump the living **** out of it

back in the day I would use stock fuel pump & electric pump...together :popcorn2:
 
I have a Holley blue pump(no regulator) set up with check valves and just run it to prime and start the engine. Then I switch it off and let the mechanical pump take over.

My other cars I install boat tank hand pump bulbs on the suction side of the mechanical pump. Works like a charm for cars that have been sitting up for a while or victims of heat soak.
 
3-5 times to the floor. The electric fuel pump did not help on mine when I used one. Doesn't spinning it a few times help lubrication after setting? I usually spin it before 3-5 to the floor just to get the oil stirring. 850 Demon. No choke.

Yeah, that's how it winds up working for mine as well.
Not that it's by choice, mind you.
If the car has sat more than a few days, she's dry and it takes a while cranking before any gas gets in the carb.
That can't be good for the starter.
 
Put in one check valve in line to carb will hold fuel for start up.
 
That's interesting, both my cars fire right up when after sitting for over a month, sometimes longer. 2 quick pumps to the floor just to make sure the choke engages and a get a squirt of fuel and BOOM we have ignition ! .... but they do sit in my garage, the only time I have any extended crank time is after shutdown on a hot summer day, then try to start it after Maybe 20min sitting outside ....
When I get home I pull into the garage and immediately open he hood to help cool things down quicker
 
RC do you have a phenolic spacer under your carb? They help a lot!
 
I guess carburetor brand/type has something to do with it, along with the type of gas you're running?
I've read the Edelbrocks are bad for this and that the ethanol in the gas helps it to evaporate right out of the bowl vents?

I've used the conventional fuel pump and now the Mancini "hemi" reproduction Carter unit, made no difference.
 
I never had that problem in the 80's with my 69 RR, RC. But then I scrapped the carter the first month I had the car and put on a Holley.
