Getting close to time to put a new gas tank and sending unit in the 69 satellite and I see a lot of posts about sending units that don't read correctly, or that don't work at all. So my question is, does anyplace sell a sender that actually works?

No hope for rebuilding my original, it had rusted away

I have yet to have read read accurately......I have purchased a unit from every vendor around in the Mopar realm.....Either I had to make adjustments or try multiple units......

No one carries a single unit that no one else carries.....There are a few units made by different manufacturers and certain vendors only carry certain ones.....

I do not understand why in 2018.....we cannot get a very common item that is replaced on every restoration today that works like the ones originally made.....

One of the top restorers out there, not to name names, stated in reference to what is the best sending unit to purchase? The answer, they have yet to figure that one out......He wouldn't even suggest because they all are crap.....

Like Justin said, there just isn't any reliable senders out there, it's a crap shoot. Good luck!

Don't remember where I got it from, but have one of those junkies. Didn't even like the way it looks, so, never tried it.

For what it's worth, my sending unit, and gauge reads great! Full to empty.

I had three old sending units, something wrong with each one. I 'built' one good unit, using the best parts off of each. So, just saying, it can be done.

I took my original Mopar sending unit sent it out to a reputable rebuilder, installed it and it still does not work correctly. My next move is to remove unit and bend rod. I never had so many issues with a sending unit as i do with these ones.

So, it's not reading from empty to full?
Maybe a little help. I went through the old tech stuff, for the gauge/sending unit. Mine is a 64 Ply, but they all work the same. First, I used a brass float. Make sure whatever float, there's no gas in it.
Ground is a key thing on the units, so I made sure it had good connections. You might not need to do this, since your's has been rebuilt, but the sweep arm contact for the windings needs to be in good shape, including the arm itself. Mine wasn't, so I swapped with another one.
Then, I adjusted the two tab stops, for the float arm, to get the correct ohms readings, full and empty. Next, with the float on the arm, I mounted the unit in the tank. Read in the tech, the arm/float should NOT touch the top, or bottom of the tank. I checked that using a long dowel rod, from the filler end, moving the float from stop to stop. Of course, the tank's filler tube was out, tank on the bench.
Had to mess with it all a little, but, sure was worth it. Main problem I had was the ground strap, outside the tank. It was always loose, when I pushed it on the fuel lines. Wound up using a strip of 12 gauge wire, wrapping each end around the tubes, to get ground.

the tanksinc option listed above is a good choice if youre not concerned with keeping things stock.

i used 9" version with the 0-90ohm GM range and matched it to an aftermarket 0-90ohm autometer fuel gauge. all good.

Sounds like a crap shoot at best. Has anyone used the sender from Brewers? Is it the same cheap part at a higher price, or is it actually a better piece? I don't mind paying up to get a piece that would work properly

The sending unit i just took out of my 74 satellite worked great when i had it grounded. I only took it out cause it is a 3/8" line with a return. The return I couldn't get capped well enough so it leaked. I just bought one without a return. Haven't checked my gauge with the new one but think I have a better idea for a ground then the reproduction one they say works on my car that I couldn't get attached. Im using a dorman 15 inch universal ground strap I modified to fit over my sending unit line and my fuel line

I had trouble with my 66 satellite with the gauge reading. At first it seemed to be off by about 50%. Then it didn't move at all for a few runs. Next it came on when I turned the key and I noticed it stopped reading while driving it. I had already had the cluster out multiple time to work on the speedometer. I decided to just loosen and tighten the nuts on the backside of the gauge where it contacts the circuit board. Now it seems to read pretty accurately, it's worked about four or five times in a row so I believe that was the fix. (Mine was an actual 5/16" Mopar sending unit came with the car, the box looked pretty old)

$35 unit made by 'goldstar'(jegs I think?)..verified range with an ohmmeter first. Needed a slight bend to the arm but it works fine. $100+ units don't seem to be any better unfortunately
