4 speed clutch adjustment

What is the right way to adjust a clutch? Or at least what works.

It's a small block with an A833 4 speed, retrofit in to a 49 Plymouth using a 76 Volare front end.
 
If you have a stock Mopar style bellhousing, take off the inspection cover, have a friend hold the pedal down to the floor & adjust the nut on the clutch rod until you get the correct disk-to-pressure plate separation (check a Mopar factory service manual for the spec).

If you can't do that, then you're shooting for about 1" pedal free-play, meaning pushing down on the clutch pedal for about 1" before the throwout bearing contacts the fingers of the pressure plate. If you pay attention, you can feel it with your foot. Sometimes an over-center spring in the clutch pedal won't let it adjust just to that point....but that's in a factory b-body, which you don't have.
 
Best to get the correct free play between the disc and flywheel, if the gap is more than spec all your doing is over exerting the pressure plate and throughout bearing.
 
What are you using for a clutch pedal and linkage wise?
Not sure what the pedals or the steering column came from. Might be from the f body the subframe came from. I just rebuilt the zbar. It used the a body rebuild parts. Interestingly, they extended the arms on the zbar to get things to line up.
