hi,i want to run a 1965 727 trans in my 64 Plymouth,,did they have the same shifting wire,,i hear that the 64 wire may be different than the 65,,,thank you

65 was a transition year as button trans ended in 64. The 65 was still cable connect

PB or Console shift?
It should work if you have the correct 64 cable.
I'm going the opposite way.
Putting a 64 727 in my 65 Coronet.

I put a 65 727 in my 63 Ply, Spt. Fury vert. Then I put an a body rear. it was so easy. Next is a 426 M/W instead of the 400 I have in her now. 500 HP just ain't enough.

I don't have pics but the difference is the ends of the cables where they connect to the rooster comb. They look similiar but one is a tad longer. I'm sure if you google PB cable ends pics will pop up and you'll see what I mean. I think the website 62-65 mopars??? Talks about the trans cables in detail.
With that said, I run a 65 console shift 727 in my 64 727 PB trans. I am not sure about 904 cable ends. Do you have the 65 cables? .if you do look at the trans end of the cables closely. I've made sure the cable in my situation is securely fastened to the 65 rooster comb, some people go as far as to swap rooster combs in the 727 trans so they match the cable. I did spend quite a bit of time setting it up. My buddy kept on pushing and holding the neutral button to make sure the comb touched the ns switch. I'd have him go through gears several times and sure enough I'd lose adjustment, so patience is a virtue here. Also make sure your kickdown rod properly pushes the valve in on the valve body at maximum throttle. This also required some patience with pushing gas and taking rod off to tweek it ever so slightly to get the valve body plunger to completely depress. You don't want to smoke a trans due to misadjusted kickdown.

thank you ,i think i will swap my 64 body valve to my 65 trans and i will be ok ,what do you think

The cable adjustment procedure is different for a '65 727. Use the '65 procedure for adjusting the cable.

I haven't swapped valve bodies from a 64 to 65 or vice versa, so I cannot say one way or the other. When I have swapped trans its always been a 65 trans into a 63 or 64 car. I use the fsm for a guide and spend a fair amount of time under the car with the trans pan off while I have someone hold neutral button down to make sure things are centered. Then go through the gears multiple times and readjust the cable to keep the nss activated when neutral button is pushed. If you go to 62-65 mopar site there is a good write up on adjusting the cables

I have a '65 727 in my '62 convertible. If I remember correctly nothing in the '65 trans was changed. I used the '62 cable. Only the adjustment procedure is different.

If I recollect, the only difference was the length of the tail shaft needing a drive shaft length change..

Pull the cable pin at the shifter. Move the adjuster until the cable slides smoothly over the pin. Also make sure you have the correct neutral safety switch. The wrong style will bind on the rooster comb. First time adjustment is best done with the pan off so you can see what's happening.

There were two or three drag racing legends who preferred the button trans I think Don Garlits was one and Dick Landy another. When Chrysler ended the button trans in '65 one of these guys had their cars converted to keep the button shift in their '65 car using the setup from a '64 and had the buttons mounted so spectators could see them shifting. I relish manual shifting; but kept my '63 with the button shift as there is something so unique about it and the 727 was a strong-reliable trans. A nine year era for Chrysler and some faithful owners were pissed when that came to an end.

Drive shafts are totally different between the 64 and 65. 1964 is a ball and trunnion bolt on driveshaft and the 1965 is a slip yoke...

Another option on it, getting a slip yoke, was to use the 64 727, but swap out the tail shaft and tail housing, from a 65.
Thought about it, on my 64, but didn't need it, since mine was console shift. Went with a 67 727, using linkage.

I'm using 64 727, 63 drive shaft on my 65 coronet, Should work okay? All from poly 318.

My drag car is still push button. Even have the button faces switched.

I see you changed the order of 1st 2nd and drive. Another member did this set up as well he posted a clip of going down the track. Kinda wise to be shifting away from neutral and reverse instead of toward it..

Reverse pattern required for most manual valve bodies.
