Champion J11Y/Mopar P-34P spark plugs

Oh, I'd go fetch some regular ol' Autolite 85's if these were going on the shelf...
They do you absolutely no good on the shelf. I say use 'em if you need 'em.

Score standings:
Use 'em: 4
Stash 'em: 1

Sure are lots of info and opinions on spark plugs.I have been using NGKs for years and have heat ranges from 7 to 10 in my track tune box depending on the boost level.
What I have not read here is how you guys test to be certain your jetting and heat range are proper:popcorn2:

NGK's have always been the ticket on the hemi's, haven't they?

IDK,,,,,,the Champs fouled too easy and not always come back.I have tried the AR's,Accel,NGK racing and had no better performance that the $20 NGKs.I have also put a set of sooty plugs in and clicked off at the stripe and they were clean with a good reading!

I can remember NGK ads in magazines back in the late 60's and I think the hemi was featured in a couple of them?

I never noticed an ngk ad back in the day. I think they're the internet "wonder" now. all the hemi dudes I knew in the '60's used champions or autolites.

That's what the MOPAR bible said to use!

Am I looking in the wrong place for this NGK ad?? 1977 vintage, maybe not old enough??

I would love to see a vintage Mopar ad referencing NGK's..........I just never have....

there weren't any japanese plugs back in the day. the ngk thing is like wix filters. some motor messiah on the internet says you have to have them so everybody buys them. hemi's and small blocks did use a champion "N" series plug (autolite was AG iirc).

Are you thinking the N is for NGK ? I never heard of them back in the day, until later I saw them on Jap cars.

I'm certainly not. I never heard of them either until 10 or 15 years ago. Hemi-itis said they were in the Mopar Bible, so I was looking for them.

My post of the 426 racing manual shows all CHAMPION plugs. I could not find any reference to NGK plugs in that tech manual. But I only have the 1977 printing, so perhaps an earlier or later version of the tech manual referenced the NGK's??

My reference to the bible was that the Champs & AL plugs were listed and that is why they were so popular.I started using NGK's maybe 10 years ago:thumbsup:

With all this talk about the Champion J11Y's in this thread, guess what I found in one of my shops just the other day? Another one of those "forgot I had that" moments.

Well, I reckon that was worth the busted knuckles.... J11's are IN.
The NGK's that came out (new, mind ya) were already sooty. It was readily apparent to me when I put them in that they were way cold
for the engine. Good riddance.
The J11's were gapped to .035 and I swear, the threads even caught easier when I started them in their holes. :)
The car fired immediately after I was done and held idle cold without a choke right away.
I think this is gonna work.
Oh, nice little nostalgia I found in the original package:

Now just to get her cleaned up for the big East Tennessee Mopar show in Knoxville Saturday.
About a 2 hour drive for me with the GTX.
Good test of progress.
