Hey Guys - I'm getting ready to do a Firm Feel stage 2 or 3 box and I want to change everything between the box to the steering wheel. What all do I need? I have a nice wheel but I want to change the column and shaft etc...

Who sells a nice power steering column that is bolt in without the shifter. Flaming River maybe?

My current column is a column shift shaft which is why I want to change all this out.

No column is better than the factory column in my opinion. Just put in a new upper bearing & lower bushing + buy a "no column shift" collar from Tony's Parts....my 2-cents.

Also, maybe buy 3 new "weird plastic spacer clips" where the column bolts up under the dash too. Those always seem to get brittle & crack. You could rebuild your column with all the parts for maybe $200 and most of that is the collar, everything else is really cheap.

Thanks for the response. That's a good point to rebuild. One of my other issues is the wheel wants to pop out or off the column. Guess if I rebuilt everything that would be part of the fix.

Can you convert the rag joint to a u joint? down by the box.

Sure. But you will have more road noise and vibration in the steering wheel.

I have a ujoint on mine, and do not notice any road noise/vibration.

Nope, just California roads.

I converted my auto shift column to look like a floor shift, JB weld the bottom 2 collars together cut off the nubs and fill the gap then sand smooth. New bearings top and bottom for about $35 plus some paint. came out great. You don't need to buy the conversion collar. Mine was a 70 so I also lost the interlock mechanism.

I mounted my tacho to the column shifter hole, perfect spot to run the wires through for a no mess installation. Plus it allows the tacho to rotate slightly for better viability if you change you mind on the position later.
