Hello,

I believe my fan clutch is failing again. I've installed 2 flex-a-lite thermal fan clutches on my 67 gtx 440. Both have only lasted a year or two before that start to go, which I've checked through wobble when grabbing the fan, and a horrible noise that is produced when giving the motor a quick rev.

Does anyone have any recommendations/experiences on other fan clutches from other companies? I am looking for a stock replacement.

Yup. Get the correct Hayden clutch for the proper distance within the shroud.

Is the noise I hear when I give the motor a quick rev consistent with a failing clutch?
It sounds like a whapping noise.

And which hayden clutch did you guys get?
2747?

I have a stock 67 gtx with a 440, 26" radiator and a 7 blade fan with fan shroud.

I have both the 2747 and 2797 sitting in the garage , brand new

Noticed zero difference between the two at idle as far as cooling temp with the five blade Mopar performance viscous fan

The 2797 is a little over 1/4" taller or will get you closer to the radiator as far as the clutch only

Fan spacing between the two Hayden’s and the Mopar version fan clutch that came that package fan are all equal or very close

The distance to the rad is not important it is the fan shroud and fan blade location

I have always heard a guy should shoot for 3/4" - 1" space between the rad and fan.

The fan should be centred in shroud as to deep it will be noisy and to far out will pull less air

Boy it was so much easier in the 70’s, everything fit like it was supposed to!

I'm going to go with the hayden 2747. The fan is placed at about the middle of the shroud.
This new clutch should sit about a half inch away from the radiator.

Will this help? :http://www.haydenauto.com/online catalogs-ecatalog/content.aspx

Update:

I found out I always had the light-duty clutch installed on my motor, which I shouldn't have.

The hayden 2747 is a heavy-duty clutch (shown through additional fins on the front face). I can tell that the fan does spin faster now at idle, and faster (than before) when I rev it up. So far so good!
