2006 SRT8 overheating/cooling fans not coming on

2006 Charger with 6.1 Hemi, both cooling fans quit working this morning got up to 230 before I even noticed. Got it home let it warm up to confirm fans are not working. Checked the relays and they seem to be fine just using the old shake test, is that sufficient? Any other way to test them? Seems odd that both fans would just stop working at the same time. Typically it would heat up to about 224 with the ac on and the fans would get t down to 215 or so. Now it just kept climbing. Thanks in advance.
 
Also I turned the fans by hand and they seem to spin freely, which tells me the motor isn’t toast, I think...
 
gotta apply voltage to the relay and see if she clicks. i know there's a tool for around a hundo that you can buy or i have also heard autoboner/oreiliey/napa will test relays for you but never had it done myself
 
I would suspect the possibility of a bad temperature sensor. Had one go bad like that years ago. Also, check any fuses for the fans. You also could try to jump power to each fan individually. If you can't get to the connectors, you could possibly do that with a power probe through a pin in the relay socket after pulling a relay out. I hate electrical crap! Good luck!!!
Actually, I got so fed up trusting electrical sensors, I just ran a manual switch and wires to each fan by bugging on to the fan power wires feeding from an (always hot) spare source at the fuse box. The switches also light up when on. Also, I ran a small indicator light mounted in the dash from each fans power wire to light up whenever the fans were on, either manually or automatically.

Knocked our power probe into a bucket of oil last week, DOH! Temp sensor sounds like the right direction. Maybe I’ll grab one and see if that works, also see if they can test the relays while I’m there
 
I know you just acknowledged my above post but I just modified it and what I added was something I have done with several vehicles over the years. At least any with electrical fans!

That’s a great idea, might use that for the coronet when I get the dual elec fans in.
 
The small run lights I added are like an idiot light to grab my attention if I lapse into a comma or something, LOL. I forgot to add, the wire that feeds the idiot lights is bugged on (AFTER) the wiring harness connector to the fans; on the fans wire! I had a bad connection to the fan once and even though it was trying to run from the power source, it wasn't making it through the connector!
The second reason for fan run lights is I couldn't hear the fans run over the engine with the headers and such! It's nice to monitor them coming on and off!
 
Was just talking to my brother in law I forgot he has a snap on MODUS scan tool that we can control the fans through and access the cooling system. Going to head over there and see if we can figure it out through there. Fingers crossed!

It's the fan motors, very common on the LX platform... pull the entire shroud assy out and inspect the fan blades closely, they crack and will bind on the shroud and cause the motors to fail.... oh yeah, the nuts holding the fan blades to the motors are reversed thread .. just a FYI !
 
Yup took the whole assembly out, ran power to the fans and nothing. Luckily autozone had them in stock so at least I can get to work tomorrow and recoup the 189 I spent on this crap.

Yup you got it, both fans cracked.
