Well the 71 318 no A/C pump has started to leak,I need help getting the right pump,my parts store is having a little problem finding.Rock Auto seams to be the way to go but they have 8 or nine to choose from,i don't know witch 1 to get,any help would be powerful lol, also whats involved on removing the pulley.thanks boys.

Not sure on that year, or what type pump was used. Never fooled with a Saginaw. Have a manual?
TRWs, and that type used 2-3 different 'sized' pumps. A 318 might take the smaller of the two big pumps.

As far as getting the pulley off, front of the pulley, at the shaft should have a raised 'lip'. Use the correct size ball joint puller, under that lip, bolt against the shaft end. Tighten, whack with a ball peen. Slips right off. Pressing it back on, is a different story. Need book, or good instructions, so nothing gets screwed up!

Yeah, thought you said NO a/c pump.

That one is with the nut. Maybe a tapered, or keyed shaft. Type puller you want will be a one piece, not the 'jaw' type.

Is that a Thompson? Should be able to search steering pumps, and get a hit.

Don, you have a Saginaw pump, it has a round reservoir

There's a special puller that clamps on the hub of the pulley. I bought one a few months ago but you may be able to rent or borrow one at a parts store.

To reinstall it you need to do so before the reservoir can is installed so you can buck up on the opposite end of the shaft while pressing the pulley on. If you buy a pump with the reservoir already installed, they should have put a pulley on it too.

ar67gtx mine is not a press fit.so from what i have read here, remove the bolt on the shaft grab onto the pulley and have someone hit the end the shaft should pop off.we will see WML.

Could be - I have a TRW which is similar to Federal style and they press on. Not sure about the Saginaw pump.

That looks like a Saginaw, Saginaw are oval shape reservoir. Federal and Thompson are round shape.
