Does anyone know if this mirror can come apart to get the ball socket out of the back of it?

Dang, I don't think so. I know you can get at the base side, but I think the mirror side is molded in. Is it stuck? Too loose?
a. Stuck --> maybe spray some PB Blaster into the cap & add a couple drops with an eye dropper?
b. Too Loose --> ?
1. find the right position & put a couple dabs of clear silicone on it?
2. put a dab of wheel bearing grease around the socket?

It is too loose and keeps falling out of position. Richard Ehrenberg had an article in Mopar Action about putting super glue in it as the crystals will not adhere, but will add grit for stability. I was thinking about getting the stem repainted and would be easier if it was out of the mirror housing. Classic Industries sells reproduction center rear view mirrors, but I believe they are incorrect and have a flat back instead of the grated grill back.

Year One has a grated back mirror, $75. It seems that you could disassemble it by removing the 4 rivets, top and bottom. There should also be a way to replace the glass without taking the whole thing apart. Never tried to take one apart. Good luck.

Thanks, I may order one from them if the super glue trick does not work.

As a last resort, you could use a center punch and tap some dents in the brass bushing/housing to tighten it up agains the ball?
Never done this but that's what i would try before replacing it with a repo.

I ordered one from you and they sent Me the wrong year (1971). The box was maked correctly though. I sold it to another member in this site.
