you know the one..... it laughed at my impact gun, and bowed my breaker bar.

I have gotten through the decades without an acetylene torch, but every now and then I wish I had one; But being a master of improvisation through necessity, I prevailed in a matter of minutes.

risking the seemingly inevitable can-o-worms, I drilled a small hole (5/16 ish) in the side of the rail next to the welded nut; then proceeded to point the mig welder through the hole. I hit the nut for a few seconds, hoping not to penetrate the threads (can o worms mentioned earlier). Got it good and red, pulled on the breaker bar (with a pipe) and BAM! it moved!

the wife doesn't care, dog just wants to play...…. but I had to share it with someone..... it's the little victories that make life worth living :D

Aha glad you MADE it kiss your ***!

Yay ! Pat yourself on the back for getting it done !

And thanks for sharing !

for the "pics or it didn't happen" crowd ……. I will weld the hole up next time out there. I will first thread the bolt back into the hole to prevent a piece of weld spatter from ruining my day...…. cause it will, if I don't

:moparsmiley:eldubb, that shouldn't be a problem with a good impact and or air pressure and maybe some penetrating fluid.

nope...... good tools, good air......gotta drill a hole to get oil in there anyway...… I don't have the patience for penetrating fluid

i would of used my 3/4 inch drive breaker bar with the floor jack handle bar added on for leverage
while hitting it with just a crappy propane torch just to warm it up some
never been defeated by anything yet :D

I'm with you eldubb, it's about time to invest in a set of hot wrenches. I almost gave up working on a recent horse trailer suspension. No one should have to put a 4' pipe on a breaker bar. I'm throwing in the towel.

Wives and kids will never understand our private wars and mini victories...

i use a ratchet, a pipe and a 4 ft pry bar to get those k member bolts. Leverage

Nothing, and I mean nothing beats having a 3/4" drive socket set and breaker bar when you need it. You know how many 1/2" drive breaker bars I've wrecked with cheaters? Too many. Nothing is going to hurt that 3/4" drive plus you get a great muscle workout just trying to lift the damn thing.

So....Am I to understand that you were trying to remove the K member and the last of the 4 bolts was difficult? You drilled the hole to add a small amount of welded reinforcement to the "cage" around the threaded nut ....and the heat from welding helped loosen the bolt enough to remove it?

Just got done installing a LSD in a 8 3/4 in a 69 road runner that's been sitting since the early 80's Thankfully, it wasn't too bad but it was the toughest one yet to get loose. It was even stuck in place lol. Also thankful that it's been sitting in a dry environment out in west Texas but it spent about 12-13 years in the Gulf Coast area before it was moved out to west Texas. It's getting tougher all the time to get these 50 year old cars apart for this old fart....

there is no cage, the nut does not move...…… it is welded solid to the rail...…. I hit it directly with the welder, back and forth as to not burn through, 4 or 5 seconds is an eternity and heated it like a torch

In the A body cars that I have cut up, there is a stamped steel "bracket" that lays over the top of that threaded nut. It is welded to the frame rail, not the nut. I would think that they did some if not all B body cars the same way. I don't recall the year or model of your car though.
Yours is still a good idea. SCORE !
