While out with my 1967 Coronet RT clone recently, the speedometer made one loud clicking sound. After that, the needle jumps considerably, and is constantly making a loud clicking sound, and the odometer has stopped working.
The car is a 440 with a 727 automatic, and has the 150mph speedometer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Either the cable gave out or something inside of the unit did. Seems you have two choices: replace the cable and keep your fingers crossed or pull the speedo and look inside.

I can tell you its not the cable. It will be your speedo. The cable is turning thus the clicking noise. The old speedo's have a plastic portion where the cable fits into. Over time the plastic becomes brittle and breaks. I had the same thing on my 6 pack Cuda

Was it turning over a bunch of zeros? Mine just went through turning to 48000 and the needle started waving back and forth untill all the zeros lined up.

If it doesn't stop clicking you might have to replace it or have it rebuilt.
