Any one have tips or trick for fixing, restoring plastic grilles? I'm working on a 69 GTX grille.

Here is a great guide per our friends at FABO.
Or you can send it to me for redo.
Yes, I can fix warped Grilles.
Have redone 4 69 GTX Grilles this year (and it is only June).

The trim strips are being reproduced, which is big help if you do not do aluminum polishing.
The Emblems have just recently been again reproduced after a long hiatus.
End Brackets are also being reproduced.

Good luck, be patient.

I have done this as well. If you don’t have an old grill for parts, I use black abs pipe and shred it with a rasp then mix with acetone. Works great and fast. Then touch up with a small file set.
I have repaired some warpage with a heat gun but it is more difficult than you might think. I still haven’t gotten real good at it yet and there is potential to do more harm than good.
Totally Auto has the best paint in my opinion.
Patience is your friend.
Good luck.

Thanks guys! I have the emblem & paint. Was just looking for tips on removing paint, ect. I tried soda blasting and that seemed to work pretty good but I had to be very careful.

DO NOT remove the paint. Sand flush and use as a good base, like you would for primer. You are wasting your time removing the old paint.

Thanks for the tip. Do use anything to wipe it down before painting to clean oil, dirt ect. off.

Also in what order do you paint the colors? I was thinking, red, silver, then dark argent.

Best advice on restoring these types of grilles.....

I clean, clean, clean, clean and clean again....Then use the paint you have.......

Be very careful clean the flimsy GTX grille....

I find this interesting, my grille needs some work and I hope to take care of it myself. My main problem is that there are several of the small vertical pieces are either broken off or broken loose. I did manage to pick up on a couple of grilles on ebay, a few years back, to be able to make repairs to mine. I knew I couldn't ever find one, in good shape, that I could afford to pick up on.

Yup, gotta have spare grilles to complete one. A MUST.

69 SS/GTX grill looks really good but shame it is plastic. I have a 71 Sharkstooth grill(Duster) and i love how it looks but 50 year old plastic is brittle and very fragile
