How many of you guys install a new filter in between oil changes? Cheap insurance for 5 bucks, especially if you have a smaller filter. This may matter as much as what oil you use. There is no substitute for the cleanest oil in your crankcase you can possibly have.

I change filter when due add what I lost and move on. Filters are cheap I get the Donaldson filter with a 30 micron rating and I do oil sample so I know when to change my oil

Best of both worlds for flat tappet cam. Remember Kendall, Brad Penn? Now it's Penn Grade. Same formula as always.

I change my filter only when I change my oil, but that's only about 1-2 thousand miles between changes. My daily driver goes waaay beyond that. With todays oil and filters, I really don't thing it's necessary.

partial synthetic? wtf's that?
I've heard grade one base stock with more than a splash of synthetic
20w-50 ? in this century? tight spec builds? you be preheating?
most wear is at startup
0W-40 unless you have loose clearances
read Widermans article again

Oh yeah, you don't need to. My wifes Impreza has a tiny filter, but its up top right there when you open the hood. I change it at 3k and go about 6k between changes. The filter cant have many square inches of pleating, and for a few bucks when on sale, its a no brainer.

i use amsoil and due oil samples to let me know how everything is doing inside my engine. i change the filter and add back what i lost with it. sample lets me see all the bad and good and how long i can run the oil till next change. also run a good bypass filter that really picks up any trash etc. so one engine has also most a million miles on it and the bottom end rod and mains done at 550,000. head was off at 800,000 so replaced it due to wear and at a million it will get total rebuild. oil changes done around 50,000 miles but samples tell me i could go longer. i don't because i have to add in idle hrs because of this phoenix weather. so they don't get turn off to much even with idle shutdown installed the drivers just recycle the key and idle to keep everything cool. for my car oil changed once a year and up to 325,000 and still have have not pulled the pan. i guess i'm saying amsoil has been good to me.

Amsoil Signature Synthetic 10-40 in the 440, has served me well. High Zinc. WIX Filter.
