Sea-foam results

Stuff works great. I use it to decarbon everything from outboards to snowmobiles to my super bee.

I was experimenting with different heat range plugs on my bee and pulled out some that were obviously too cold. For hahas i put the plugs in a plastic cup and poured some sea foam in. A day later i pulled them out and they went from nasty black carbon to a clean light tan with no crust.

***btw sea foam will NOT foul plugs. Even if you do a heavy decarb where you stall the motor out and let it sit the motor will refire with no issues.

fwiw i read an article years ago that said the history of the product dates back to the days of WW2 when they used it to keep the early detroit diesels from carboning up due to their dirty running nature and the poor fuels available overseas during wartime.

Anybody know if SeaFoam will have any negative effect on O2 sensors?

Back in the day We used Gm Top Engine cleaner on every tune-up. Run the engine up to temp, use the pour in or spray can till the engine stalled. Let it soak in and changed the plugs, points ect. Talk about a smoke show, good for killing mosquitos, small critters and Ex-wives. Now outlawed in Cali of course and no longer available. Good stuff, have used Seafoam with similar results. I have 2 cans of the GM stuff hoarded in case I get married again.
I buy it all the time in Pasadena at O'Reillys. So not sure where it is Outlawed.. OP is from California too..

Actually, a safety data sheet is not the formula.
Oh I understand that. It wasn't the MSDS that I saw it on. I thought it was a SeaFoam site, but I could be wrong. The more I think about it, why would they want to disclose their secret formula.

Just looked up the A/C Delco version and in the description it says Not for sale in California. The version I have part # 1050002 is the original. The stuff you can get might be a reformulated version ?? Hey as long as it works. E-bay has some of the older stuff @ 25$ a can, Yikes. Went to a local Oreillys and all that was on the shelf is Seafoam, buy 2 @ 11.99$ each get 1 free.

Back in the day, we used plain old ATF through the carb or vacuum source to clean combustion chambers. Talk about smoke ! Was a fun trick to do on the tune-up techs when they weren't looking. A little down the carb before start up.

1. O2 sensor issues? Not sure, but I haven't had any issues that I'm aware of on my (cough) Mustang
2. Original development - I "think" the story is on the Seafoam site that a guy originally developed it to keep boat engine fuel from going stale. His son later took the formula and marketed it for automotive use & it took off.
3. Outlawed - I hadn't heard that, but maybe it's true. I don't know the details on the Seafoam situation, but California is strict & San Francisco area + San Diego area are even stricter than the rest of the state. It might be a ""VOC" limit thing (bad for ozone) OR something might be suspected to cause cancer....only in California for some reason....those would be my first two guesses if it's true.
4. Seafoam only really has one formula.

Seafoam's legal and available by the gallon out here, I think there's been some confusion...the outlawed stuff wagonman was referring to is the old GM engine cleaner

anybody try this stuff yet?
I have a can but haven't

Sorry about that cough you have.

Used it on a G.N. years ago no problems except a lot of smoke.

Oh yeah, it will smoke like crazy! I saw a cab driver in Chicago that swore he put 2 cans into each tank of gasoline....his cab smoked all the time!

Last fall my primary float started sticking bad. This spring not having the money for a kit I spent my play money on two new guns. I filled the bowls with sea foam through the overflows. I let it set for two days topped them off with gas and started it. It smoked for a few minutes but now runs good.

Well, that's not very helpful. All i learned was, don't run a gallon of water through your engine. And water didn't do a good job. Where's the comparison to how Seafoam does?

The seafoam test came up next. It didn't clean any better.

California wants folks to use all natural formulations, like this:

It contains "natural scrubbers" to decarbon an engine:
