Hey, I'm wondering I have a 1967 dodge coronet 500 convertible that came with a 318. I want to make back to factory original but with a different engine but the engine made to look like it came with this car originally.
So my question is I want to put a 440 magnum in it. I know back in 1967 for the Coronet 500 Trim package you had the engines options of the slant 6, the 318, 383, and the 426 Hemi. But I'm wondering if it included the 440 magnum or not. That's what I'm stumped on. Does anyone know if the 440 was another engine option with the Coronet 500 Trim package?

If you're concerned that the block look like something that could have come with the car, use a 400 block. Looks the same as a 383 and you could do a nice stroker combo with it to give you all the bottom end grunt you need for all of that weight. Back when stroker kits weren't available yet I did a 448 using a 383 block with a offset ground 440 crank. Great combination with awesome street manners and no "trick" pieces required. A mild hydraulic cam in it and it ran 12.0's all day long on the crappiest gas you could put in it.

yep, 451 or 512 disguised as a 383.

Might even get away with a 440 simply painted turquoise.

Only visual cue to the difference is the raised pad with the stampings in front of the intake.
(present on 440 (RB) block, not present on 383 and 400 (B) block)

Note that a 383 powered car would have "383 Four Barrel" emblems on the front corner of the fenders (for a 500 model) rather than a "V8" emblem for 361 and smaller engines.

...and if you can produce a 426 powered non R/T (or WO*) 67 Coronet, I'd like to see it.

I played a very small part of the early 1990's 426 1967 Satellite controversy which Chrysler denied building and later admitted.

There are now 8 documented I believe, but I have never seen or even heard of a 426 67 Coronet 500.

That's not to say it never happened, but AFAIK, none have surfaced.

*- there were WO code 426 factory race cars in 67 but they had 440 trim.

Well i really don't want to do a stroker engine. I just want to do a stock engine. But I was thinking of doing a big block but besides the 383 (even though I love the 383 which I have in my 70 Plymouth Roadrunner Convertible) I just wanted to see if Dodge has ever made a 67 coronet 500 convertible with the 440 motor. If it does come down to it. I might just drop in the 426 Hemi. But I'm looking more "affordable" way lol...but still if I know the 440 never was an option then I might go either the 383 or the Hemi.

I need to amend my previous post-

In 67 the 361 was dropped, with the 383-2 barrel taking it's place, so...

The 383-4 would get the emblems denoting that engine, and the 383-2 would get the "V8" emblem.

To the OP- since you're not going with the original engine- what does it matter?
