hey guys, I just bought a project roadrunner in pieces. The prev owner had it with a body work guy who did all the disassembly. He put everything back in the car BUT the dash, apparently. If I can't track this guy down, do I have any options, or is this now a parts car?

All other numbers match the fender tag including the rad support, engine transmission and title.

What to do?

State motor vehicle laws apply. My guess get ready for some hoop jumping.

You are screwed. You may be able to get a new vin. through the state. I know a guy that did this but it was a new issued vin. It didn't have the Dodge vin it had a IL State issued vin...

A state issued VIN destroys the car's value, though right? Even if the fender tag, build sheet, body etc says what it is?

Fingers crossed that this thing will turn up....

It's worth hunting until your sure it won't turn up. In the 80's went to look at a Hemi Cuda, a roller but no dash with vin, $1200 . It was a real car but garage fire wrecked 18" of the nose needed both fenders plus shaker hood. Interior gutted to big a project for me.

if you have a bill of sale and title, along with the sellers info (title history), you should be able to get a new VIN from the state. Wouldn't hurt to put it in writing of the events that took place (notarized by both parties would help). You may wind up with a new state issued VIN. However, I have seen a state issued VIN and it was the same exact # issued when new. It would help to show the officer where the main #'s are located on the body as well. Radiator yolk, cowl, trunk lip, door jamb sticker.

As far as value, I personally don't think it matters. I've seen many re-issued VIN's go thru special interest car auctions and it didn't phase the price at all.

You have the VIN on the fender tag (with matching body stampings) and the title...what's the problem?

What i know that there is no company on us who can make a dash vin prepoduction. Only they can make fender tags and stickers.
You have to go to highway patrol office amd they will make a new vin for your car

again, no need to get a new VIN and destroy the cars value.

You own the car and have a title that matches the sequence numbers on the body.

case closed.

Try calling the company I stated. If you have all the required data and legit proof, they can make a tag.

This information that this member posted, is 100% true advice! We had a friend go through this exact same thing 4 or 5 years ago.. and the reproduction V.I.N was exact, just like the original.

In order to get a VIN tag, you must provide absolute proof that your vehicle is it. Body stampings, fender tag, build sheet was required for mine. I registered it immediately in order to see if the previous people had swapped the dash into another car........which would have been illegal.
