Cool car but to help we need some more information (at least I would)
1. Motor = 440? I'm guessing
2. Cam size and torque converter (Big cam, stock converter?)
3. Does it do it warm and/or cold?
4. What is the idle speed in Neutral?
5. Does it start easily? This helps indicate tuning and motor health.
Start manipulating wire harnesses out of gear, vacuum leak? Going into gear will move wiring a little and may open a partially broken wire. Check coil connections.
Place the rear end on jack stands to reduce the load on drive line. run the same test. Ensure your rear end is not binding (brakes, gears) run the drive test to determine if the transmission is not loading your engine. Can you push the vehicle with normal effort in neutral or in gear? Also place a voltmeter on coil to monitor 9-11 vdc when in neutral verses in gear. Potential maybe to low to maintain the spark when in gear. I suspect the transmission maybe locking up the drive line as a last option. Good luck
My 72 Satellite has done the same thing several times. In my case it has always been fuel/carb related.
Pulled out the idle screws, sprayed some carb cleaner into holes, blew out holes with compressed air. Re-installed idle screws.....problem gone.
