Any advice for a vise for my new bench? The boys in the shop threw this together for me out of some scrap.

I’ll 2nd the Wilton.

Had a customer at the store swear by them. Said they wouldn’t loosen up like the cheap vises do because of the finer thread on the screw.

The vise I have has been okay for the last 25 years but the jaws do loosen up and are a bit too small. They don't extend past the body much which gets restrictive.
It would be handy if it swivels and rotates too.

If you can get your hands on a C.Parker vise from Meriden, CT for a reasonable price, get it. Mine is over 80 years old and rock solid still in unrestored condition. Not for a small bench as this one weighs in at 165 lbs. One of the best of the early, American-made vises...

Craftsman, I have one that is years & years old, no problems.

I’ll chime in w/Wilton also. Bigger is always better.

The only thing I can add is if I bought another vise I would make sure it has dual lock downs to keep it from spinning as mine has a single lock down and it doesn't hold as well as the dual ones I have at my workplace.

What's a dual lock down? Don't think I've ever seen that before.

I've had pretty good luck finding vintage USA bench vices at swap meets, thrift stores and flea markets.
