Drive in theaters fading away

They've been on a decline for years. I believe there is a couple in my area

None by me, was just looking for some a few weeks ago but closest one was 3hrs away ! It's a shame, they were fun

Still got one in Shelby NC . . . about 45 minutes from me . . . .

Only been to one once back in the 80s and it closed shortly after that. I dont know of any running anywhere around here.

Got 1 about 15 minutes from house. Or at least we did last time I drove by it!

The stories the old drive-in could tell!

Land became more valuable than the revenue the theater could produce. In fact one city here condemned a theater because a developer wanted the property for a shopping center.
Today that center is not fully leased and the mall across the street has been demolished. There were probably 20 in the immediate area and they are all gone.

Back in the '60's we went as a family once to see "Old Yeller". I believe us kids all fell asleep. As a teen/young adult, I never fell asleep, for obvious reasons.

from imdb:
The death of Old Yeller is often referred to as the saddest moment in all of the live-action Disney films. Many adults have often described it as the worst moment from their childhoods.

Ours back in Iowa used to show all of the Russ Meyer type flicks...Vixen, Super Vixens, Mudhoney, and other B-movies. The longest running one was "Closed for The Winter."

WE have one here in Litchfield Mn about 20 miles. I have many good memories of the Drive In with my girl friend now wife.

we still have them in Ohio https://www.aceable.com/blog/ohio-drive-in-theaters/ this one is just up the street

They opened a new one here in Fort Worth, Texas near downtown....pretty cool. Live music, good food, beer, rock wall climbing and face painting for the kiddos.http://coyotedrive-in.com/fortworth/
We have one here in Lewisville as well. We enjoy going in the spring and fall but summer is to damn hot to sit in the back of the truck watching a movie.
