Anyone Else Experience This?

The last car I did was a numbers RoadRunner and it had the inspection marks , a lot of NOS parts and was as close as I could get it to the assembly line day it was born. Very fun to build. Its very first outing was the Garlits show we used to have here in Ocala just a couple weeks after it was all together. It was all perfect sitting there and then a guy with his wife walked by and the wife looked over the fender at the engine and her giant purse with big buckles swung loose from under her arm and it slammed into the fender and chipped the brand new paint. Now when we go to a show we clean it and go walking and relax. Every year we just get the spots fixed and move on. Took it to a show in Orlando and it got tagged by a stroller. You can't protect them after they've grown up, you just have to let them fend for themselves.

I’m concerned for other drivers but that is no different for any vehicle I drive. I look at it a lot like others, have good insurance! As we’ve seen just about anything can be fixed. Yeah, not what we want, but can be done. You pay all this money to sit in the garage? Hell No! Get out and drive it, enjoy it and show it off!

Little of this...

Or maybe closer to yours...

drivers are way more fun. mine a original 383 car. the fender tag was missing, just a shell basically so i built it they way i wanted. down to about 5 things on my to do list and she will be road ready. hopefully two weeks.

A state of mind? Show or go? Show might as well be sitting in a museum, no touching allowed. It's all okay. All up to who owns the thing.

Been to too many 'museums', looking at beasts made for speed. Airplanes (warbirds) no different. Had my time on the B-25, flown like they were made to fly, at times 20' off the ground. To me, guess it just depends on who's looking at it. The owner, and pilot, when upstairs, truely became one with the airplane, great thing to see, and be part of. Especially when we ran down the coast, 20' off the water, and came up to a nudie beach...backed off the throttle a little, looped around, and made a second pass!

Thanks for all the comments, it helps a lot. I am going to get it back on the road a few more times and see how it goes. I kind of like the idea of picking up a 2nd mopar, but my better half may not agree.

Nice paint is over rated, rather spend my $$ on mechanical upgrades. Take it to the track or quite back road and get some sticky rubber on the rear quarters, very liberating. (not actual car, scale model done well )

ry liberating.

My four year restoration on a 67 Charger “finished” Aug 12/17. I had nearly paralyzingly terror of BEING scared to drive. Scared of being scared. I had promised myself that “I will drive this car.” I know it’s inevitable that I’ll have dings and scratches, but it survived 50 years, and if I drive reasonably it will surely outlast me, even if not perfect.

That said, I have nightmares about being rear-ended. Or front collision. None of this stuff is reproduced. So just make sure you’re way ahead of everyone!

My car is no where near a perfect build it has lots of little chips behind the tires and little scratches. But it is all I have and I love it. I still get nervous in traffic expecting a little old lady or dumb teen to hit me. I want another Sweptline to cruise in.

Drive it, beat it, wash it, wax it, love it and learn to live with it. When you die, someone else will get the chance to restore it ...just like you did. Rinse, repeat. Enjoy! Life is fkn short!

Restored 68 charger for my friend 16 years ago,he sold it because it was to nice to drive anymore for all the reasons posted. He got into Harley and found it cheaper and easier to store. Mopars are different breed i think because so few of them made generally speaking. Maybe thats why nervous.
