Hey all, what do you recommend for my 14 inch rims as I have to replace the full set after a worrying blow out? Currently I have 225/70R14 but want to go as big as possible.

You want to go as 'big' as possible or as 'wide' as possible"? Several parts to the equation:
- What's the back spacing of the rim you are using?
- What's the width of said rim?
- Do you want all 4 tires the same width, or a bit narrowed on the front?
- Approx how high/ low do you want the profile (sidewall)?

With these answers you can get much more detailed help.

The widest readily available tire is a 245/60/14 with these on the back you could put a 215/70/14 on the front and have about the same height tire.
Otherwise the 225/70/14 like you have now is the next choice. 14 inch tires are becoming a thing of the past.
So a charger in Ireland? Cool...

Thanks guys, i was more asking what I could fit Dako based on standard spec of my 67 with 14 inch stock rims as I don't know spacing etc, sorry i should have been clearer.

I reckon I will go for 235/60/R14 up front and 255/60R14 in the rear, cooper cobras if I can find them, with everything at stock do you see any problems?

1 of 2 I believe Don, it does not love our narrow winding roads or all the rain but we love her :)

I think the 235/60 is a bit short on a Charger and I don't think you can find a 255/60 in a 14" tire.
Does it have a front sway bar? (They usually do)
You might want to change to a Steer and Gear box and check your steering coupler for play.
Also are the rear springs original? They tend to lose their curve and spring rate over the years.
Good shocks and it should handle fairly well.

yes sway bar in place, shocks are good and springs are pretty decent, so you reckon I need a 235/70r14 if I can find them?

I don't think so I had some on my 66 for several years, it gives you more of a staggered look with the 245/60's on the back.

so I'll try
REAR - Cooper Cobra Radial G/T P235/60 R14 96T RWL
FRONT - Cooper Cobra Radial G/T P215/70 R14 96T RWL

I like the Coopers as well, but since the largest 60 is a 234/60 then I would suggest just getting all four (4).
Then you can rotate them.
But I still think they are a bit short on a Charger.

You have a beautiful car. Stick to ***/70 14's, otherwise you'll end up making it look like some ghetto-pimp car as any of today's ever popular low profile wheel- tire combs always do. The inernet is full of pictures of chargers that are ruined by those hideous tire-wheel schemes.

OK but we were talking about putting 60's on it, not 235/35/17's?
Here is mine with 245/60's on the back and 215/70's on the front

That looks lovely Don, I think you can get away with 60's on the rear once the width is good like yours as it is a percentage but I can only get 235/60, do you think it will be enough to fill the arch?.

I can save a few euro by putting 215/70s on the front, I don't mind that I can't rotate them as it does not get much milage, what do you think? would they look to skinny as I know the 70 will fill the arch ok.

I have 235 60 14 on 14x5.5 rallye wheels.

Technically they are over what width is supposed to be installed on a 5.5 inch rim.
They are fine but I would not go any wider. The bottom bulge is fairly pronounced and I believe any wider would lead to premature sidewall failure.

Do you have a photo handy of the 60's in place YY1?

and what do you think about putting the 215/70's on the font?

So to sum up :) ... the real question I suppose is - what is more important to the look of the charger, 60 profile or 70 profile .. as a 60 profile I can go to 235 wide and a 70 profile I can go to 225. Is the extra 10 in the width worth losing the filling of the arch?. All subjective I know but I value all your opinions as it's my first time changing the tyres.

To break it down for you to decide what you would like best:

Your current tire is 225mm wide x .70 tall = 157.5mm tall sidewall height

Options you are considering:
245mm wide x .60 tall = 147mm sidewall height
235mm wide x .70 tall = 164.5mm sidewall height

With a 14" wheel, I personally would go with the 235...as it has a larger sidewall. You will notice the height more than the width difference.

If you want raised white letters, BFG still has a small but decent selection at reasonable prices.
