My car is finally painted and I am in the process of having the body shop install the hood stripes. My car is a factory vinyl roof with the performance hood stripes and no air grabber.

Can someone please let me know the correct measurements for the stripes. I have found two on the internet but not sure which is correct.

What is everyone using for paint? The car is painted F8 with Green vinyl. The body shop recommended HOT ROD satin black. We probably won't clear the satin black but I am not sure how well this would hold up? I think if we clear them it wouldn't look correct. If anyone has pics that would be great.

Thanks

Thanks guys for the info. Who sells the organisol and is it hard to spray?

Originally it was Organisol..........
And it had a high texture to it. It wasn’t just “flat black” as far as I know. When I painted my hood with organisol, it came out of the gun like cotton candy. A call to the manufacturer and they said this happened frequently and they didn’t have a recommended fix. I thought, well, if I am stripping it for a respray, I might just try to fix what I got. So I used a Scotch pad and smoothed out the cotton candy so it was closer to just textured. But the color was medium gray - not black. Then rubbed it down with reducer on a cloth pad and the black color came back without changing the texture. It was beautiful. Many older Mopar owners have commented that my hood stripes are the closest to original that they have seen.

It is a lacquer........The trick is the proper pressure, volume and distance from the metal to achieve the correct look.....As long as your painter is familiar with lacquer and the prep involved....He will have to do spray tests to get the right look.....

Performance car graphic, Frank Badalson and Instrument Specialties sell it....

There was a video I saw a year ago showing how to accomplish it correctly...I just can't seem to find that....

Has anyone seen it done it Sem Hot Rod Black? How close is it to the original paint?

Yeah...depends on where you bought your organisol......I only purchased mine from Frank Badalson, DP and IS....That is why I had no issues relating to the original texture look....In addition I knew how to paint it properly.....

The factory original had "suede" in it and that is no longer added they add a metallic into the paint.....So you have to approach it as such when applying it...

If you are not doing a concours restoration and plan on driving it a lot......IMHO I would just use a suede/satin black......The organisol looks the best but is unforgiving and hard to clean if it gets dirty.......

Oh I will be driving this when it's complete. That's for certain. I had the organisol paint on it before I stripped the car. It was tricky to keep it clean. I even used baby oil at times to bring back the deep black color. I think I should stick with the HOT ROD BLACK. Only issues is I can't clear it.

Back in the day lemon pledge worked well......A good "Spray Detailer" works well.....

I always wiped down my A12 car and 70 RR hood with a fairly damp sponge. Then dried off with a bath towel. I never had a issue keeping the orangisol paint clean.

The formula I used. To clean the textured paint I use wizards matte paint detailer. If you wanna go Chevy style, paint it hot rod black, haha

Chevy style would be trunk spatter paint probably.that is after they get done chaining down the 454 engine in a 70 chevelle because they make so much power it keeps breaking the mounts. Overhead a chevy guy telling this to another chevy guy.:BangHead:

Holy ****, I literally heard the same thing about a built 350 that keeps breaking motor mounts so he chained it down, a talk between two Chevy guys. The other Chevy makes so much power that it burns plug wires because the headers get so hot (I think it’s running lean man) haha cracks me up

think probably some better mounts that dont break out there by now for them. But that would ruin the story for them sack kissers lol

Haha very true “My cousin have some mounts laying around, I’ll throw those in instead of buying good new mounts”

When you overhear that conversation, inform the Chevy guy that a Chrysler Reduction Starter puts out more torque that a stock Chevrolet Small Block.
