I was going to go for a 100 mile drive today to unwind & check my fuel 'economy'. Willits is exactly 100 miles one way from where I live so left a note for wifey & took off.
It wasn't to smokey when I left, this is Mt. St. Helena area from Calistoga:

I had Hiway 128 to myself which was great because long stretches of it have been recently re-surfaced which made for an excellent cruise.

When I hit 101 I noticed some new smoke and thought it was odd because the nearest fires WERE up by Redding. I was suprised to see this much smoke from way up there...

Well, it didn't take long to realize that the Hopland area was burning up. Turns out this fire started yesterday afternoon.

This and the creeping traffic soon took away my enthusiasm so I turned around at Ukiah & headed home putting the fires behind me. Or DID I...?

Not 10 minutes of entering my house I got an alert of ANOTHER FIRE that had just started at Lake Berryessa!
It said no evacuations were ordered at that time.
That changed 30 minutes later and evac orders are now in place for some areas out there.
I must say that I am WEARY OF THIS!

Stay safe up there. Yosemite fire is the closest one to me but I'm down on the valley floor, we only have to deal with the effects on air quality...

I left Sacramento Thursday at 10am it was 88 degrees and smokey, not much sun. It got to 100 degrees pretty quick headed north on I-5. The smoke got thicker and it was as if driving in winter with overcast skies. The temp never dropped below 100 degrees until we reached Eugene Oregon, 457 miles!!!. I never saw the sun until we got to Grants Pass, where there was a huge fire to the west. Redding was smokey but the fire was not there yet. Enjoying bPERFECT weather in Seattle. I hope all the fires get out by next week.

And in South Central Pa. they had a Lantern Festival. Lots of flaming lanterns floating up up and away with the air current towards the south west.:realcrazy: Stay safe my friends .

Moved from N. Nevada and dont miss the fires/smoke. Heading to Reno next week Via Alturas and Susanville route. Gotta check the route sure wont be going through Redding. Stay safe my Cali Bros.

There was smoke filtering the sun here East of Sacramento.

You would think that Officials would have reconsidered this event given the current happenings out West. :screwy:

Stay safe people. It does not look pretty from what we see on TV over here.

I’m just south of Fresno, I can smell the smoke in the air.

Just seen an update on Good Morning America. Very sad. Thoughts and prayers to those affected.

I just figured that most people do not know where that is. I figure most people have heard of Sacramento.
Still clear here in the South Bay. Most know that Granite Bay is the Beverly Hills section of Sacramento.

O.k. Cali folks be careful and be ready for anything. Praying it gets better.

Once again, I’m down in Simi Valley. I work all around Ventura county where the Thomas Fire reeked havoc last year. I’m so so sorry to be seeing what’s happening up north, it’s so bad. I hope and pray everyone is just kept safe, so terrible to be hearing about children dying, and more. Praying for ya’ll.

My brother lives in Elk Grove, outside Sacramento. He says it's all hazy, smells like smoke and there are air quality warnings.
