Good evening

My 70 charger rt is getting paint this week and I really want to use the FK5 dark orange metallic. Does anybody know of a accurate formula to use?

The one sprayed on the shell was from graveyard carz. He posted the formula but then said he had to tweak the tint some more to get it the color where it is now. The complete charger photo is one I like as well

I just had a car painted in FK5. I went with Dupont and would say it looks a lot like the pics of the finished car above. A buddy of mine painted one with PPG paint, and imo that brand is more vibrant. Looks more like the one above from GC, and is what I would go with if I did it over again.

Where are you having it painted? I was in Roseville a couple of weeks ago visiting my Cousin..

Would it be possible to get a picture of the formula? I would really appreciate it. The PPG rep here did a spray out and was way too dark. I’m really looking for somebody who has had it done and still has the can with formula on it.

I’m having a friend of mine do all my work. He owns a shop in Fair Oaks. He tries to stay away from the old cars now because they take awhile but he still does mine.

He’s done my 69 camaro. My 69 fastback and now the 70 charger

Sorry to "paint nerd" out on you guys, but the "formula" can vary quite a bit. Each batch of pigment paste varies & so does the base, so each blend of paint varies just a little bit. Also, each manufacturer's "formula" will be slightly different.

My suggestion is to find somebody that custom blends their paint & take a panel of the color you want to them to match. If they're good, they'll start with their paint brand's "formula" & leave out a little bit of each pigment, then creep up on the color to dial it in. I also suggest that you get an extra 1/2gal - 1 gal. of the paint blended when you paint the car for any (God forbid) repair work that needs to be done. Paint definitely fades over time with sunlight exposure, but having some extra paint on hand that's really, really close (same batch) will help a lot. Also, if your painter makes up more than 1 gal, make sure he blends all the paint together, mixes & pours it back into the cans before starting to make sure all the cans are exactly the same. Sorry to be so long winded.... my 2-cents.

Here is mine with the Dupont paint, more in my garage album. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of the PPG car.
