start up issue

Not sure what the problem was. My 69 RR will occasionally sit for a few weeks at a time depending on my schedule and weather. I keep it hooked up to a battery tender to keep the battery fully charged. The car sat for a couple weeks until last night. I started the car and backed it out of the garage to clean it up a bit before cars and coffee this morning. Started the car back up and drove it back into the garage without issue. Out of habit, I hooked it back up to the battery tender. This morning, I disconnected the tender and went to start the car. Rapid clicks of the starter solenoid was a I got, then nothing....not even a click. No dome light, dash lights, nothing. I checked the battery connections and everything was tight. Just to check, I disconnected the positive terminal and then reconnected it. Car started fine. No issues since. Any idea what happened? Battery is only about 6 months old.

Did you notice what the battery charger read before disconnecting it ? Just a guess- moving the cable around may have affected corrosion in the cable ?

how old are the battery cables? new or old. check the resistance in the cables with a multimeter.

Battery charger has three display modes...solid red for charging, blinking green for final trickle charge, solid green for maintaining full charge. Tender was showing solid green, so battery should have been at full charge. Once it did crank over it did so as normal with the battery fully charged.

Battery Brain Fart ??? LOL Just kidding. I have heard of similar things before. I even had them happen to me. Although I'm just crap shooting here; I have had batteries that did the same, instant dead, but did not recover. I had one that everything would shut off when I hit a bump and come back on which was a broken connection inside the battery. I have also seen a brand new battery change polarity when charging it initially. I have also seen a fairly new battery go dead short. Try the patented Ford wiggle test on the terminals while running or before to see if anything changes. As a real crap shoot, try wiggling the bulk head disconnect at the fire wall. Good Luck! Keep us posted. Hopefully it will rear it's ugly head straight away!

Loose battery terminal? New battery no good? Bad ground? Corrosion on battery terminals?

Don't simply rely on that to rule out the battery. Some last 8 or 10 years. Other crap out in a year or less. I've even had 2 that were DOA right off the shelf.

Had starter relay bolt to positive cable connection trouble.
