Hi guys,

Quick question and I can't seem to find an answer. My painter is about done with my car. Do the front fenders need seam sealer where they bolt to the aprons, or is it just metal to metal?

Thanks in advance!

Seam sealer will prevent the dirty water from the wheel well that is thrown by the tire from getting into the engine compartment. Don't ask how I know this...

I guess you could run a bead of it along the bottom when they’re aligned? Or I could use putty tape between the seams?

I’m sure I just made purist guys cringe with those 2 thoughts! Hehe.

Why would the "purist" guys cringe? Are you building a concours car and competing at a national event? If not, then no one cares....

Originally, they used a seam sealer at the factory. It was beige in color.....They ran a bead down the fender side that mates with the apron, tighten the bolts and some squeezed out. Then the car was painted.......If yours are painted and your worried about it squeezing out just have them apply enough to seal and not squeeze out.....If some does squeeze out just remove it before it dries....

Seam sealer is cheap.....you can buy it today in a beige color(which doesn't matter)....Just run a bead, tighten and be done with it.....

I used 3M strip caulk on my last one. Comes apart way easier than seam sealer if you need to remove a fender for any reason and does the same thing.
