I want to add some more power to my Poly, already has a high rise weind intake, 600cfm edelbrock carburetor, tti headers, minor engine work with a bore of .030, original 727 that should be getting a new 727 or a rebuild soon as I am having some problems, original gearing but was wondering what else I can do to get more power without breaking the bank. Would getting a bigger cam do good on this motor, keep in mind I do want to keep this 318 in the car and am not looking to swap to a BB or anything else. Any advice would be great

Look up Bruce Toth of Toth Performance in Pennsylvania.Near Pittsburgh. He has allot of tricks when it comes to the Poly engine.
I believe we are not allowed to post phone numbers. If you don't find anything on the internet, send me a message and I will send you his phone number.

Thank you! will look him up

A bigger cam would help but for a suggestion, there is a lot of missing information starting with car weight, gear ratio, tire size and if you want to keep the stock converter.

Gary Pavlovich out in CA is also well versed in poly knowledge.

If I remember correctly, certain early hemi heads will fit a poly 318. Not a huge jump in performance but a big jump in “wow” factor. Otherwise I’d look at a reasonable cam (degree’d) and play with torque converter/gearing combo. You should have decent stock pistons, maybe 9:1.

The HEMI heads will NOT fot the small block poly 277/301/318 engines.

Agree. I had him rebuild my poly and he has an excellent selection sheet I'll try and find. I was lucky enough to have him so close.

Cam, rear gears, and torque converter are your best bets as you seem to have the rest. There is a cnc port program for the heads but it is expensive.

Not all poly blocks are the same. Early and late. I think the brake year was 59. Most polys utilized a hemispherical cylinder head.

Funny how what was once considered a "Boat Anker" is making a new found come back. Had one in my 64 Belvedere, with a little work made a good runner.

 Your on it. The 318 Poly engine in question is part of the “A” series engine. It came in 3 displacements, 277, 301 & 318.

The earlier Poly engines did have the ability to share or swap to the early 1st generation HEMI head. Like the 354 HEMI.

Here are my 62 Poly heads after machining. I believe it is nicknamed "the semi-hemi"

Unfortunately the greater amount of my poly knowledge was acquired after I no longer had one.

Even though they weren't, We call them the Big Block 318.Others used the Wide Block term.
The other good thing is the exhaust ports were like the Hemi. Not like the Big or Small blocks with the center exhaust ports next to each other.
