looking at putting air conditioning in my 68 coronet non-a/c car. classic industries offers two kits. vintage air or classic auto air. has anyone done this, which one is best ?

Lots on this. I used Classic Auto Air perfect fit for a non ac 69 Coronet. Ice cold for 10 years.
It will be a life saver and marriage saver in Reno this week.

One of Classics kits run the lines down the drivers side and under the battery box and one runs down the passenger side like factory.

With Classic Auto Air, They work with you to run the A/C lines however you want.

I just received my Classic Auto Air kit last month. Still haven't hooked it up yet just checked to see if the lines and parts will fit. Looks like everything is good. This will be my winter project doing the a/c and the heater box. Getting excited....:D

My take on my recently installed Classic air is its a good system and customer support was very good.
I did have a issue with the compressor rear support. It did not fit properly and when i did install it , the compressor was at a angle . This was with a stock intake manifold. I fixed it myself. The other problem was one of the lines going into the compressor was to high. A little adjustment with a big wrench fixed that. The main and most important is the controls. The water valve control failed immediately. The replacement looks cheap and is all plastic. Now there is a issue with it going from dashboard mode to defroster mode. I called them and they are suggestion how to diagnose the problem. A relay seems top be at fault. Mind you this is a brand new system.

Went with vintage air on the 66 coronet it runs the lines under the passenger side fender and they feed into the engine compartment via that suspension adjustment hole in the inner fender panel. The condenser connections mimic the factory routing going over the top of the radiator core support. We slightly bent the aluminum lines and put them through a oval shaped hole we cut in the core support for a cleaner look on our installation.

I am thinking of going with that Vintage Air system , but a little skeptical about running the lines into the fender well and out through the alignment access hole. Where do the lines run into the fender well? Won't they be exposed to road debris? Pictures would sure help......................MO

yeah im not liking the lines under the fenderwell either

I don't have pictures of the hose routing under the fender but basically the evaporator/heater box lines come out through the firewall inside the fender area
you cut the firewall holes using a template vintage air supplied if I recall ( have to notch the splash guard too ) then the hoses connect to hard lines that feed through that access hole. Note you can get with whoever you order from and can delete the vintage air ac hoses and have your own made up to go how you like there are several billet bulkhead fittings that could be used or can just run lines out through grommets.

If your concerned about road debris hitting the hoses a simple u-shaped sheet metal shield could be made to cradle the hoses. I may have my friend bend one up for this car

Protection is easy to make. I made this out of .062" aluminum from Lowes to protect my fuel injection pressure and return hoses. BTW, I have Vintage Air and it works very well, even in a drop top...
