Thanks for sending the pics of that water pump housing...Unfortunately, that is not what I am looking for....It was worth a shot!

Good to hear you got some parts ordered for the car Larry. Now if only you can get those other projects buttoned up to free up some time for this car...……..and don't drag any old trucks home till this one is done lol.

If they are off, you can always re-cut the housing!
Well, I didn't even show the pic to Jackie. To nervous she would try to talk me into trying to buy that for our next project.
747Mopar helped me cut 3" out of each side ( the documentation is in this thread ) - it's been re-welded and already powder coated . . . now to just make it "work" . . .
could not believe it . . . got a missed delivery from UPS today, but drive to the facility and picked up the box . . .
I just talked to them on Tuesday . . . and the box is already here . . .
lugs already pressed into place . . . nice looking hubs too . . .
Now to compare them to my old axles . . . sure hope they're right . . .
And the splines are there too . . . now to see if the fit properly into the Auburn limited slip . . .
Additional Update: tested the spline fit - we're good ! ! !
Ordered my tapered bearings, races, and seals from DoctorDiff today too . . . should be here by Wednesday . . .
Looks like I've got some more cleaning of the media blasting "stuff" out of my axle housing . . . don't think I'll ever get that thing cleaned up ! !

Those look purdy!
Got out in the shop and worked on the center section - since the bearings, races, and seals are scheduled to be here Wednesday . . .
Got it cleaned up a bit, some castings ground down, and got it in epoxy primer . . . paint tomorrow . . . ( I hope )

Glad to see your out from under the house and making headway on the more important stufff!!!!
Got it in paint tonight . . . single stage for this stuff . . . hope that I mixed the stuff right . . . will know tomorrow . . .

Trying to keep the progress moving on this rear axle install . . . and having fun too . . .
So, this is what I've got for the process and the order . . . taking it one part at a time. . . .
First, these seals need to go into the adjuster/non-adjuster plates . . .
The non-adjuster ( left ) goes on the driver side - the adjuster ( right ) goes on the passenger side . . .
To help with this the lathe helped me to make this from 2" PVC pipe
( it was so slightly too large on the outside, and too small on the inside )
So I cut away enough to allow the seal to fit properly . . .
Fits perfectly . . . now to install them . . .
Done - installed - the tool worked great ( just wish I had metal to make the same tool ) . . .
And this is the order ( and direction of the parts ) as they get installed . . .
- the bearing/race goes in the direction shown ?
- - - - - ASKING - race first on the shaft, then the bearing to capture it ?
- then the collar to capture the bearing
- then the foam gasket
- then the backing plate
- then the other seal ( this is more like paper than steel )
- to the flange of the axle housing . . .
And this seal gets mounted into the end of the axle ( in this orientation ) ? ? ?

Other seal goes against the flange on the axle housing . . .
If I didn't mess up something in this photo documentary - I think I've got it now . . . and I've already gotten started on the process - (2) seals already installed . . .

Got the missing parts that I ordered in the mail on Saturday and go a chance to work on the Belvedere a bit today . . .
After getting the axle housing powder coated - which means they had to media blast it first ( I may never go that route again - cleaning out the media is a pain ) Devin ( 747Mopar suggested cleaning it multiple times "even if you think you got it clean . . . he knows . . . )
Turned it upside down and dumped some parts cleaner into the housing . . . used a wire brush to "try" and clean out the gap as seen in the picture . . .
After about an hours of cleaning and scrubbing ( this was round #4 on this housing ) - still got all of this crud out . . .
Look at all the crud - some of it is still metal shavings . . . but Devin "warned" me of this area . . . so I took time to address it . . .
Somehow, I "lost" (2) nuts that hold the axle housing in place, so I had to order more - got them on Saturday -
Shot them with Cerakote - yes red - today . . .
Then - as suggested by Devin, I ran a bead of Ultra black silicone seal in the gap that I had so much fun cleaning out . . .
Looks much better and stuff will be less likely to "hide" in this area going forward . . . Thanks for the suggestion Devin ! ! !

This all leads to the exciting part! Once its together you can get your backspace and start narrowing choices for wheels!
More work on the Belvedere . . .
Cooked the Cerakote ( as required ) and the color on the parts turned out incredible . . . Mixed in a little grey with the red . . .
The red in the background is how it sprayed on - the nut in the pic is how it turned out after cooking . . .
Made a quick tool to install the seals - it held the seal in place and centered it in the hole
( the .010 clearance was a bit tighter than I'd of liked ) - But it worked . . .
Guess what I found . . . all the parts that I could NOT find and had to order them . . . GRRrrrrrrrr - figures . . .
Got the seals installed . . . now to pack the bearings, and press them on the axles ( with the end caps in place - don't forget )
Progress . . . even if it's a little at a time . . .

Good night of progress on the car and the rear axle today . . . YAY ! !
Got a whole lot done . . .
Starting with the driver side - which is the "fixed" side . . . I got it all ready to go ( this was a whole lot of "fun" )
- - pack the bearing with grease
- - put the parts together ( checking 15 times to get it right )
- - axle shaft retainer ( non adjustable with seal already installed ) - race - packed bearing - collar
- - and press them in place
I borrowed Justin's idea to hold the axle shaft retainer in place ( but couldn't find rubber bands - so zip ties worked instead )
First time I put the center section ( single stage paint ) with the axle housing ( powder coated ) - slight color difference . . .
And the center section is bolted down to 45 ft/pounds ( per the service manual ) with my cerakoted red nuts . . . like the way this looks ! ! !
Next - ( Thanks Justin ) is the metal gasket ( got the proud side of the gasket lip toward the thicker metal on the axle housing )
Then goes the backing plate . . . then the foam gasket ( to keep the break dust out of the bearing grease )
And then the axle goes in place . . . DANG . . . almost looks like I "actually" know what I'm doing with this rebuild ! ! !
( ok - got lucky and have all the right friends to call and ask to "make sure" . . . )
Now to get the nuts in place and get them torqued down to 35 ft/pounds ( per the service manual )
